Fixen the Jets

Created by: gojetsgo
Team: 2017-18 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 3, 2017
Published: Apr. 3, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Cap situation is glorious and as many bad contracts (Enstrom, Stuart, Matthias, Lehtonen) up in 2 years or less so the kids can be resigned (could even eat more bad contracts for picks). Forward lines are solid and young and all four lines can be used with confidence. Defense is much improved with prospects still coming through the ranks (Niku/Kostalek) and forward depth good too with Harkins/Spacek/Gennaro making jumps to AHL hopefully. Future and present is set.

Goaltender has to come via free agency if you have given up all hope on growing from within. Lehtonen really not the answer. Prying Crouse and Domi out of Arizona in my opinion would take multiple 1st round picks and with the Jets success at the draft why bother. I do believe O.E. Larsson is the ANSWER on D and you should try and acquire him at almost any price. I still believe Connor in goal is worth the growing pains.... Impatience is expensive!!!

Lehtonen was more to make the Honka deal cheaper and I totally agree about Connor, if we put a half decent defense in front of him and give him a good backup who can play 20-30 games in case Helley struggles that is the perfect situation not signing Bishop to 6 years cause Helley is the future.

Jets have lots of young assets to acquire a stop gap goalie; myself I would lean in Florida's direction and see what it takes to get Reimer.
