Sabres 17-18 (4/12/17)

Created by: finchj15
Team: 2017-18 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 12, 2017
Published: Apr. 12, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hopefully we can sign Petersen without him leaving to another team.

BUF would have to trade a top 6 scoring forward for Hanifin. 3 players come to mind. Kane, Reinhart, Okposo. Kane had a great season, so sell high. It hurts to trade him because of how productive he was, but BUF needs defense. Reinhart is still young and has produced well so far. He could grow into even more of a player. He should be kept. Okposo is interesting. You could trade him before his NTC kicks in. I think you could get the same production out of Reinhart as you can Okposo, and I think that it is possible to get Reinhart extended for less that 6 mill. I doubt the Sabres would think of trading Okposo though. We shall see, but if I had to place a bet, I think the Sabres would look to use Kane. I wish BUF did not have to trade any of these guys, but it may need to happen to fix the defensive problems.

BUF could look to trade for another forward during the season.

Starting season in AHL Rochester: Petersen, Asplund, CJ Smith, Malone, Fasching, Bailey, Baptiste.

Trades
1.
BUF
  1. Hanifin, Noah
Additional Details:
Hanifin showed flashes of greatness this year. Still looking to find his true game, he is projected to be a top defenseman in the NHL. The Sabres need a kid like this. It hurts to have to give up a top 6 forward, but it could be very beneficial in the long run.
CAR
  1. Kane, Evander
Additional Details:
Kane is the top forward that CAR would want. He finished 9th in the NHL in goals per game this season. Missed time because of broken ribs, still scored 28. He is the elite scorer CAR is missing.
2.
BUF
    Expansion
Apparently McPhee owes Murray some kind of favor. Nothing too big. Vegas gets a pick, and a former 20 goal scorer. If he sucks for them too, Vegas has ability to buy him out without cap worries.
    VGK
    1. Ennis, Tyler ($1,000,000 retained)
    Additional Details:
    2017 BUF 3rd Round Pick
Incentive to take Ennis instead of another player. BUF will also eat some money.
    3.
    BUF
    1. Manson, Josh
    Additional Details:
    2017 ANA 1st Round Pick
    BUF gets a top 4 d man.
    ANA
    1. Girgensons, Zemgus
    Additional Details:
    2017 BUF 1st Round Pick
    2017 MIN 2nd Round Pick
ANA is able to swap 2017 1st rounders to move up in a draft that is not very deep. They fix expansion problem. They also get a 2nd round pick and a low risk, high reward project in Zemgus Girgensons.
    4.
    BUF
    1. Lehtonen, Kari
    2. 2018 3rd round pick (DAL)
    Additional Details:
BUF will obtain Lehtonen and flip him. They get rid of Bogo contract by eating 800,000 on each year and get a 3rd in return.
    DAL
    1. Bogosian, Zach ($800,000 retained)
    Additional Details:
DAL gets to dump Lehtonen by using a third round pick and gets a veteran d man, something they may need with all the young defensemen they have.
    5.
    BUF
      Rights to Jordan Weal
BUF gets a guy who could provide some scoring, just not sure how consistently. If Weal were to not turn out, this trade wouldn't hurt BUF too much.
      PHI
      1. Cornel, Eric
      2. Lehtonen, Kari ($2,950,000 retained)
      3. 2018 3rd round pick (BUF)
      Additional Details:
BUF eats half of Lehtonen's salary. PHI gets a goalie to pair with Neuvirth after Mason leaves in FA. They get a bottom 6 forward prospect and a 3rd round pick all in return for Weal.

No way would Francis deal Noah Hanifin for Evender Kane, It's going to take at least Reinhart coming back to Carolina to get Hanifin. Evander Kane wont cut it.

You realize Evander Kane was the 9th best goal scorer per game in hockey, right? lol he'd be a huge get for a team needing a top 6 forward.
