Ahahaha. Alright, I don't think I've used such a sarcastic tone for my initial reply, but we can go down that road if you want.
Maybe you should look at the years after that, and rethink about your plan.
First, the only reason why you have $3.5m in wiggle room THIS YEAR...is because not only did you give Radulov a 4-year contract at $5.5m (which is probably short of $1.0m and two years compared to what he'll probably get), you also low-balled Markov to a $3.0m contract (his salary will decrease, but not by half) and assumed Hanzal wouldn't get more than $4.0m, in an open market, where he's considered by many as the best center available. Then, you also have Galchenyuk at $3.5m...which is about 500k short of what I personally believe he'll get on a short-term deal, but that gets offset by what you gave to Beaulieu, who I don't think will even hit the $2.0m mark.
So now you have $3.5m in capspace for this year.
And then what happens ?
Price is in line for a significant increase (roughly that same $3.5m per), and you have to get Danault and McCarron (who I assume you want to keep) signed to newer and more expensive deals. You already took Plekanec's salary off the book, so you're not saving any money there, and while you may decide to let Markov and Emelin walk away, you would have to replace them, with very little money to do so, once Danault, McCaron and Price's new contracts are in the books.
But let's say you managed to do it ! You're a freakin' wizard of negociations, and somehow managed to absorb Danault, McCarron and Price's increased salary, replace Markov and Emelin on D, and add some subs on offense and defense...all of that with that $10.6m you have ! Which by itself, might prove to be an impossible thing to do, unless you have some prospects on ELC contract coming up (can't replace Markov or Emelin with Juulsen, you traded him away) or sign sub-par players to fill those empty spots.
And then what ?
I'll tell you what...the team implodes !
Duchene, Pacioretty, Galchenyuk, Lehkonen, Scherbak, Beaulieu and Sergachev are all up for new deals...and you're gonna pay that by clearing who now ? Byron and Benn, and their combined $2.3m ?!?
You're already screwed by Shaw earning top-6 money for a top-9 role, and now you're handcuffed with Hanzal playing 4th line minutes at $4.0m for another 2 years...with no possibility to trade either one of them, because of their contracts.
Now, that's two years ahead...but the only reason why you made it this far, is because I agreed to make A LOT of concessions in your favor for the first two years.
Am I still jumping to conclusions now ?
...or can you make them yourself ?
