Slafkovsky has the goods to become the big LW for Suzuki and Caufield but what happens if we were to bulk up even more at centre after the Dach acquisition.

The answer is clear. In the interest of the rebuilding Canadiens, size and goal scoring on the front end is needed.

The answer to both of those is Chicago Steel and University of Michigan C/LW Adam Fantilli, a potential first overall selection slightly overshadowed by Bedard and Michkov.

In order to help ensure that Fantilli becomes a Canadien, it is necessary to finish bottom-two so that at worst the Canadiens get the third overall selection in 2023.

It also makes sense that Carey Price unofficially retires and is placed on LTIR before he can be moved to a cap floor team looking for an insurance-paid cap hit.

A priority for the Canadiens will also be to sure up the right side of the blue line (as there are question marks with Mailloux and Barron). The D corps doesn’t need a star to be effective, but should be reliable and options are needed.
