Description
A total makeover which injects lots of youth, skill, speed and tenacity.

Carly for Drouin is a trade that just makes sense. TB get an insurence policy.

Holtby, Johansson and Vrana for Tkachuk, Bennett and Kylington is a blockbuster. It speeds up the Flames chances of contention with elite goaltending and a top-6 addition in Johansson and chances of Vrana having a Tkachuk-season points wise. Bennett had a down year and might benefit from a change of scenery. Tkachuk had a great rookie season but will have to follow that up next year (which usually is hard). I love his tenacity and would be a welcomed addition to the Caps. Andersson's a good D prospect to even out the value.

Moving Ovechkin. It seems inevitable, but really hard to pull off. This is really a 3-way trade involving Caps-Mtl-WPG. I think this is good value for all teams. Caps are weak on RW which Gallagher changes. Sergachev is Draft exempt and a LD which fits Jets needs perfectly, and TRrouba steps in to fill the void of Carlson leaving for the Caps. Mil also gives up two 2nd round picks, which wasn't theirs from the beginning.

Orpik to Vegas doesn't need to happen, but prevents the Caps from losing something more important.

The Carlson/Drouin move and Orpik to Vegas move seem possible, but the other two seem unlikely. First of all, trading Ovi is far far far from inevitable, and in my opinion is very unlikely. The Caps are going to look into trading Ovi potentially, but the return in a move like the one you propose is nothing compared to a franchise cornerstone/generational talent. Everytime Ovi has a down year he continues rebounding and changing his game- he is also often far from the main issue in the playoffs. Similarly, while Holtby had a poor playoff performance, it seems unwise to deal a top 4? NHL goalie.
