Signing Bouchard to 7 mil would put him in the top 25 of cap hits for defenceman, while Nurse is already in the top 10, and 16.5 mil aav for 2 offensive defenceman doesn’t seem favourable

With the cap projected to go up significantly and what Bouch brings, 7mil will look like a bargain contract in a few years, i think its more likely it ends up being closer to a 6x6

I would bet he gets what Rielly got when he signed his deal, a 5x5, he really hasn’t proven much at the NHL level yet, but he has elite potential

next years cap hit is only 83.5 mil, I like the idea of locking up bouch long term, but 5.5-6.25 would be better

He’s a half a point per game player in a 100 game sample size with suspect play in his own end, he’s proven he can shoot, but not that he can be a 23+ minute a night defenceman

he was 2nd in 5v5 points in 22 under defensemen, only behind makar, was 3rd in even strength points, only behind Hughes and makar.. Half the dmen are powerplay merchants, but I guess he hasn't proved anything. He also gets little to no powerplay time.

Like I said he’s proven he can shoot, I’ll give you that, I in no way think he’s a bad hockey player, I just think you need a larger sample size before locking someone up to 7 mil a season

I agree, but I think he'll have an unbelievable season if he gets pp1 time. He's been growing at a great pace since 2020-2021. I wouldn't be mad if they signed an extension for 5-6 mil, 7 is to much. He does lack in his own zone, but lots of young defenseman do. I understand your point, but imo it wouldn't take long for him to make a 6mil contract worth it.
