Florida Panthers - $5,000,000 over the cap. Assumes Duclair is on IR (can go on LTIR but will come off mid-season). 23 man roster
Trading block: Hornqvist ($5.3m), Bobrovsky ($10.0m). If Bob is moved then Alex Lyon or Andrew Hammond (PTO) would be promoted to backup. If Hornqvist, any cheap veterans would fill 4th line.
Complications: Panthers missed the buyout opportunity with Hornqvist and were unable to move Bobrovsky (even with retention). Moving Hornqvist will cost a 1st round pick at least and Panthers don't have any for the next 3 years (and only 2 2nd rounders in the next 3 years) so it will probably cost prospects +. Florida also still needs help at LHD in the top 4 unless Carlsson or Kiersted are both seen as full-time NHLers.
Solution: Move Hornqvist to Arizona (especially if Ladd retires and they need to reach the cap floor) or Chicago and pay with prospects + draft picks.

Toronto Maple Leafs - $3,400,000 over the cap. Assumes Rasmus Sandin signs a $2.165 million AAV deal. 23 man roster
Trading block: Kerfoot ($3.5m), Muzzin ($5.625m). If Kerfoot is moved a middle-6 wing is needed which means playing a 22 man roster.
Complications: Both Muzzin (full) and Kerfoot (10 team) have No Trade Clauses. If Muzzin is moved Sandin/Giordano would fill out LHD spots; and either Benn/Mete would be 7th blueliner.
Solution: Trade Kerfoot to a team not on his list for a mid-round pick. Winnipeg, Anaheim, Washington could all be options.

Edmonton Oilers - $2,400,000 over the cap. Assumes Ryan McLeod signs a cheap deal of $950k with Klefbom and Smith on LTIR. 23 man roster
Trading block: Barrie ($4.5m), Foegele ($2.75m), Puljujarvi ($3.0m).
Complications: If McLeod signs a richer contract (which he deserves with term) then the cap overage increases, possibly beyond what moving Foegele can provide. If Barrie, then a RHD would be needed.
Solution: Move Puljujarvi and promote Holloway. Anaheim would be a great fit but a division rival; Montreal could use a future #2RW and has cap space now. Avalanche actually could be a good fit but a potential playoff rival again. Can't imagine that teams like Montreal would consider this a "cap dump" since Puljujarvi is a young prospect still so a he should return a draft pick at least. Dallas might be an option for Barrie if they settle their RFA deals at lower AAV on bridge deals.

Tampa Bay Lightning - $310,000 over the cap. Assumes Cirelli on IR. 23 man roster.
Trading block: n/a
Complications: n/a
Solution: Run 21 man roster until players return from IR then Demote Myers to AHL and gain cap savings of $1,100,000 which makes a 23 man roster possible when Bogosian is healthy and Cirelli comes of IR/LTIR.

Dallas Stars - $unknown
Trading block: n/a
Complications: Pending Restricted Free Agents Robertson and Oettinger deserve big contracts. Dallas has leverage as neither has arbitration. The players have leverage as they are both elite talents who proved it last year in the regular season and/or playoffs. Robertson can command $7-9 million depending upon term. Oettinger deserves around $5-6 million on term. Dallas can afford $7-8 million for Robertson and $5-6 million for Oettinger now that Khudobin is on LTIR for the season; but they started negotiations much lower and might not get the term they want from the players. Dallas could also really use a top 4 RHD also.

Los Angeles Kings - $unkown. 22 man roster.
Trading block: Sean Walker or Matt Roy; Gabriel Vilardi
Complications: If RFA deals for Anderson and Durzi exceed $2 million AAV each then the Kings need to move out salary.
Solution: A great many teams are in need of RHD and the Kings have an excess; choosing which one to move however is tricky; as is finding a trade partner with even some cap space; and even harder since
most of them are in the Pacific Division or are potential Western Conference playoff opponents.
