Slowly retool back end while staying competitive

Created by: antciv19
Team: 2017-18 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: May 25, 2017
Published: May 25, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ken is not doing a full rebuild like Arizona, Buffalo, Toronto, etc. He is going to try and retool on the fly. With a good group of young forwards mixed in with veterans, the next 3 years will be a mix between selling some of the talent for defense and running out/buying out of bad D contracts.

I honestly don't see most of these moves happening. Sheahan is not worth a second round pick at this point. Vegas will more than likely stay away from Helm. Calgary would consider the trade, but I don't think stone is the player people think he is.

Let's say Vegas takes a cheaper player, Jensen for arguments sake. Holding off on the Green trade until the deadline puts the team over the cap. There may need to be a few more creative moves if you want to 'stay competitive'
