Might be the worst Trouba trade I've seen so far.

From a NYR perspective, a Trouba trade STARTS with Derek Stepan most likely.

Why would the Rangers wanna get rid of Stepan when he has the production of a 1C?

Easy. He makes 8 mill to put up first line numbers and puts up 2nd center numbers for 8 mill. He has a no trade that kicks in July 1st. Horrible on faceoffs. His shots are weak. No puck skill with his stick. He is just eh.

I get he stinks on faceoffs and lacks creativity with the puck but you gotta understand he is producing 1C numbers and his cap hit is 6.5m. He put up more points than Kopitar, Bergeron and Thornton this past season, and they are all 1C's for their team. Players like Stepan don't grow on trees. While fans love to make players like him and Nasher scapegoat, their leadership qualities and ability to play a two way game are invaluable, even with the hefty contracts they carry.
