In expansion draft the Islanders are likely to lose Hamonic, Pulock or Nelson. If you protect 7-3-1 this leaves Pulock and Hamonic available. If you go 4-4-1then this protects Hamonic or Pulock. If you go 3-5-1 then this leaves Nelson available. Makes this trade before hand and then go with 3-5-1. Tavares, Lee, Ladd, Barrie, Leddy, Boychuk, de Haan and Pulock. This leaves available Bailey/Strome/Prince. I think Strome would be the best fit for an expansion team.

Not to mention, Hamonic had an awful year. He was the worst player on the team and he likely needs a fresh start and Barrie is a guy who is capable of 40-50 points from the blue line. We already have de Haan who is the defensive shut down guy so Barrie leads the rush from the 2nd d-pairing.

definitely way too much for barrie-hamonic did have a terrible year but he was banged up for basically the whole year and is still a good top 4 shutdown dman who was one of the better dmen in hockey during the 2015-2016 season- this team can't afford to lose him for a barrie type dman considering last seasons problems had more to do with giving up goals rather than scoring them and not to mention his very team friendly contract...this isnt even preventing the isles from losing a good player in the expansion draft because this means strome will for sure be taken and he's still a very talented player on a cheap contract
