So your argument is that QoC plays a part (Quality of Competition) and it is certainly worth noting that Kotkaniemi doesn't get the big assignments. I've not tried to argue that he does. But that doesn't mean he doesn't excel defensively! That's the entire issue here. He plays incredibly well defensively. Someone that can play well defensively in a sheltered role. But just because he's not getting major assignments on account of the fact Jordan Staal is a 7th defenseman doesn't mean he's not FANTASTIC defensively. David Krejci is one of the best defensive centers of our generation. He never got the tough assignments, does that take away from his skill? NO! Your entire argument is that Kotkaniemi is sheltered, but he's not absolved of his defensive responsibility. You've got a hate boner kid
your argument is "he's good defensively, against weaker competition" as an argument for the quality of his contract and term.
Krejci Krejci literally had a 32% of his TOI against Elite Competition, whereas Bergeron was at
40%
You literally just spew nonsense, that is easily disproven, Krejci faced elite competition, him and bergeron covered roughly 75% combined TOI vs Elite competition per game.
Yes, when a coach shelters you, gives you primarily offensive zone starts vs. Defensive zone starts, your GA/60, Corsi and FN stats will be skewed, because you're not in a position to have shots against or defensive responsibilities.
KK is good at faceoffs, in an offensive zone start that leads to positive gains... in a defensive zone start, it guarantees nothing, and the fact that he's below average in that ratio of starts on his own team, clearly demonstrates the coach doesn't trust him in his own zone, of his average 5 starts, how many can be from icing?, if the coach doesn't want him there, then the coach clearly doesn't trust him with that assignment, you on the other hand, think he's an all world player because his corsi is higher.
Sheltering does assist in absolving of defensive responsibility, if you start in the offensive zone, you're not worrying about defense at that point, I think it's getting clear you've never put a pair of skates on in your life.
