Do either Carolina or Arizona make these trades?
I signed Thornton to a high $, 1-year deal so as not to hurt cap flexibility down the road, but they would have almost 5.5 million to choose another center (Bonino, Hanzal, etc)
This would give them a much deeper defense.
Yes, it means playing rookies and inexperienced players, but at some point they have to because of the cap situation. Why not accelerate that development now, so the core is not too old to win another cup when those guys are ready?

Next season a trade like this could potentially happen, as he's UFA in two years. Right now, he's right. Arizona would have to be incredibly high to make that move
