A Change of Scenery

Description
Most of the description is in the trade boxes. Please read everything and judge the trades after. Signing Iginla is a cheap option. He may be done, or he may have 1 last year left in him. Maybe coming back to Beantown would energize him. The 3rd line isn't great in this Mock, but it wasn't great last year and we still made the playoffs. If Vatrano gets the puck around the net enough he'll score. Iginla and Sheahan are question marks, but I like them more than Jimmy Hayes. A change of scenery for those two players could lead them to rebound years. The basic principle of this mock was to buy guys who have dipped in value. It's like the stock market, you don't buy something when it's at it's peak, you buy it when it drops below what you really believe the value ultimately is going to be. We add these players for cheap and keep hopes of the potential of them having a stronger year and really balancing out our team. I like the extra size and grit these players add and I believe they are better players then they proved last year.

Trades
1.
BOS
  1. Sheahan, Riley
  2. 2017 6th round pick (DET)
  3. 2017 6th round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Riley Sheahan was once good, but when he was counted on last year to be a primary scorer he totally flopped. Coming to Boston he will be insulated by Bergeron and Krejci.
DET
  1. Hayes, Jimmy
  2. McQuaid, Adam
Additional Details:
Detroit gets a similar player to Sheahan who's had struggles and needs a change of scenery. They also acquire Adam McQuaid a RHD who's good defensively. Detroit won't miss the 2 6th rounders, as they have a pick in every other round, including 4 in the 3rd round. The value works out as Hayes + maybe a 4th of McQuaids value for Sheahan and then the 3/4ths of McQuaids value leftover for the 2 6th round picks. I think this is pretty close, but you'll ultimately have to be the judge.
2.
BOS
  1. 2017 1st round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
Boston ships off 2 players we don't really seem to want or need. Spooner scored 49 points 2 years ago and 39 points this year, so he's got a good chunk of value. Subban was taken in the first round, but has flopped at the NHL level in his very limited time. He needs a chance somewhere else. The Bruins are almost better at drafting around the 2nd round IMO. Guys like Carlo, JFK, Lauzon, Lindgren, Frederic have more value compared to the pick they were selected with than guys like Zboril, Senyshen and DeBrusk IMO. This also allows us to trade our pick in that teen area to move back or for immediate help.
DAL
  1. Spooner, Ryan
  2. Subban, Malcolm
Additional Details:
Dallas fills two holes with this deal. Spooner would be great for them in their offensive system and Subban would be their best goaltending prospect. The pick they lose is a very very late 1st.
3.
BOS
  1. Landeskog, Gabriel
Additional Details:
Landeskog would make a great Bruin. Sure it's been rumored since the trade deadline, but in this instance Sweeney talks Sakic's price down. They make a mutual trade and Colorado gets their future top 4 defenseman and mid first round pick. Heinen could emerge as a player, he's definitely one to watch in the future. We have a bunch of talent around Heinen's level, so we can part with him. Lauzon and Lindgren are still there at LHD for prospects to we don't need Zboril. We acquired a 1st rounder in another trade so we can trade our higher pick for a proven asset.
COL
  1. Beleskey, Matt ($1,000,000 retained)
  2. Heinen, Danton
  3. Zboril, Jakub
  4. 2017 1st round pick (BOS)
  5. 2017 4th round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Colorado gets the 1st round pick + Future top 4 Defenseman they require to trade Landeskog. I think Colorado would be better off with Zboril and Heinen than with just Carlo alone because they get more depth and they also already have Erik Johnson and Tyson Barrie on the right side locked in. Getting another Physical LHD to go with Zadorov and company would be great. Beleskey is moved as well for so the cap is closer to equal. They won't mind putting him on the 3rd or 4th line for 3 years and who know's he might turn back into a 20 goal scorer for them. One things for sure, he'll certainly play his hardest every game and that could be a big asset for a team who looked at times last year like they had almost quit.

Good trades and good descriptions. I like that you take the other teams' needs into consideration as well! It seems like a lot of people don't really think about the other team anymore! Also, way to keep it simple, no crazy moves.

A very good effort and thought put into this. I'll give you my thoughts, but they are just my opinion.

A) You haven't mentioned when these trades would happen, pre or post expansion draft. Because we would have to figure out who to protect and when for Vegas to make their selection.
B) I don't think we need Iggy. You are already tight to the cap and at only 22 players, B's usually carry the full 23 man roster - I like leaving a few million at least to have flexibility.
C) Trade #1 - I like this trade, however, instead of the 2 2017 picks could we exchange for a high 2018 pick? Say 2nd round?
D) Trade #2 - I like this trade too, you're reasoning is strong - however, instead of 1st this year, could we get their 1st in next years draft?
E) Trade #3 - This trade I'm not fond of. Although your "value" exercise is sound, I think there are better ways to spend that $5.5M. I also would like to see a full year even I the AHL of what Heinen and Zboril can do. Their value may actually increase! Beleskey you could move out alone for a pick or prospect and then we have cap relief, or even keep him for another year to see if he rebounds and we still have a little cap room.

Just my opinion, feel free to respond...
