Kane without sacrificing goodrow

Created by: matt59
Team: 2022-23 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 23, 2023
Published: Feb. 23, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rangers show 908k in deadline cap space here…

Harpur to Hartford/waivers clears 750k, Kravtsov and Lecyshyn 875k and 766k respectively via the trade… results in 2.4 million in cap roughly outgoing and Kane has a hit of 2.625m. If NYR can find a player who with retention comes in at a cap hit of less than 683k then can run a 21 man roster but otherwise they’d have to fly very close to the sun with a 20 man roster.

So it’s not impossible… but it’s not without risk.

The value could be adjusted either way to accommodate Chicago receiving more or less depending on how many suitors are permissible by Kane and such.

would you not rather send your 2024 1st instead to still have one for this draft?

I was gonna say 24/25 first and something extra to sweeten tbh...

    Or a prospect and a 24 2nd

I’m not a rangers fan per se but i think the case for including the 2023 1st would be that with as cap strapped as the rangers will be next year, they could have more risk in using that pick than 2023. At this point it’s pretty much a lock that the Dallas and NYR firsts will be later first round picks.

I feel like with the run Kane’s had Chicago will refuse to budge on needing a 1st included somehow. Personally i think there’s less risk in the 23 1st but if they’re comfortable with giving up the 24 1st i wouldn’t be shocked either

I think itll be a conditional 24 first... If we win the cup it turns to a 23 or something along the lines, im not opposed to moving a first if it gets us the best team we possibly can have.

I generally agree with this. To me this year is New Yorks “all in” year before things get extremely tight cap wise. Even with protection on the 24 pick that’d leave 25 exposed and i can’t imagine NYRs cap situation will magically get better another year down the road ya know

TB gave a 4th for what amounted to 300k retention to Detroit at the TDL ,but the someone else does 2.625 million retention for that same 4th really?

The real cash and remaining salary is what matters at the end of the day, David Savard was all salary at that TDL i believe. Iirc Patrick Kane had a 4m signing bonus and only a 6.9million salary this season including bonus. So if that’s true itd only be 2.9million prorated to the last 20 or however many games. I mainly used the 4th as a placeholder because i didn’t want to do the retention math and more often than not that seems to be a 4th or 5th rounder exchanged for retained salary at the deadline.

Even if Savard was all salary Detroit retained TDL portion of 1.05 mil while send Brian Lashoffs 750 k minor salary whonm TB lent to the Griffins so it was essentially TDL portion of 300k or about 45k or so real dollars.

Yeah like i said idk exactly how the math works out. The 4th is moreso a placeholder. If the amount of dollars paid means they have to give up a 3rd they have one of those too so it wouldn’t hold up a deal in any case
