Let’s remember Ottawa doesn’t need picks and prospects at this point. It’s a little light sure, however capitals arnt rebuilding until Ovi is done. Mantha is serviceable at a lower cap. 24 1st can be used for trade if it doesn’t turn into anything great. Like you said Capitals arnt getting any younger, so that pick could be pretty high.

Ottawa doesn’t need three picks for Debrincat if he doesn’t sign. They need players that can actually play next year.

obviously this is light for debrincat and the caps accept but there is zero reason to believe he wouldn't sign in washington lol. this idea that players care about how old a team is or whether they are true contenders more than they care about money and location (especially canada vs. the us) is insane. debrincat will sign long term in ottawa if they give him enough money, just like he would in washington
