Why would you buy out Suter if you’re not going to leverage those cap savings and go get a defenseman who can play top 4D minutes?

$3.8MM in cap space probably isn’t enough by itself to get a top 4 D-man. Past that, you’re trading away more cap space and assets to bring in a top-4 D-man, which I’m not ruling out, but I’m not entertaining that here. But it’s not actually $3.8MM in cap space with Pavelski’s bonus that the Stars would rather not roll over if they can avoid it.

This was really an exercise to see what the roster would like not only with the Suter buyout but with the prospects injected into the roster.
