Moving up in the draft

Created by: KentMcNally

Description
A Rangers fan said they would do the Rangers trade with Montreal.
Would Pittsburgh do the trade for Panarin at a cost of $8M to them in order to get him? Plus Pittsburgh gets to unload Granlund's contract to offset the salary of Panarin.

Montreal takes at #13 one of: Sandin- Pellikka or Barlow or Wilander or Perreault or Wood (for Edmundson, Dvorak, Kidney, #32 and #37).

Getting rid of Dvorak and Edmundson clears the way for younger guys. Granlund could get traded at the deadline.

Let’s revisit that Rangers trade: FLA 1st for Panerin. Let’s just do that and you have a deal.

OK. My plan would be to flip Panarin (retained) because Montreal has more cap space. Or Montreal takes back significant cap space (like Backlund) to move up in the draft.

And my plan is for the Rangers to just shed Panerin without getting more players against their cap. The first is fine.

Interesting... but how many Suspect/Prospect MTL need to become competitive?
I think that if you can get Planarian for FLA 1st... I would keep him and let CC Dach Suzuki play with an elite forward... and see the result of your core future forward

My concern with what you are saying is that keeping Panarin makes Montreal better this year, when I think one more year near the top of the draft would be more beneficial to the team in the long run. Maybe they get that young right handed defenceman by (a) trading Panarin for a pick and (b) finishing closer to the top of the draft in 2024 by NOT having Panarin on the team and getting them a few more wins, due to his very good regular season production.

I see what you are saying about having the young guys play with a talent like Panarin, but I am all in for the rebuild, which I do not think Montreal should try to expedite at this stage.

I agree with the rebuilt... but pushing for PLD and having everyone healthy will for sure put us in the second/tier team... so 1 round pick in 2024= 17OA.
Adding PLD + Panarin... I think we can start counting

Not a fan of the Pens deal.
Panarin is still one of the best playmakers in the NHL, but he doesn't fit the Pens' needs. A pass-first player over 30? We have several of those, and much cheaper than Breadman. I doubt he waives his NMC for either Montreal or Pittsburgh, too.
No thanks on having Edmundson for any price. No thanks on giving up our 1st to do this.
