If the devils get another goalie I think they're going to need to ship VV out too. Schmid is ready and the team could save 2ish mil in cap trading him.

I do agree with your assessment that Schmid looks ready. But that doesn‘t necessarily mean that playing a lot of games in the AHL and sporadic NHL games hurts his development.

Schmid is waiver ineligable for the entire 23/24 season (unless he starts like 55 NHL games). With this trade the Devils could put themselves in a really favorable position with their goaltending. And as we have seen this year in the playoffs: you just need a goalie that is hot and it doesn‘t matter who that is. Not many teams have the ability to choose from 3 goalies.
