How about trading Garland for Lafrenière?
That trade makes a lot more sense.

As bad as Lafreniere has been for his draft capital, he has a lot of control over his contract compared to what most RFAs would. He is on a team that is fairly cap strapped and if he gets moved out he still has decent leverage over a NHL team. I don’t think NYR accepts the trade anyways so the first part is irrelevant

Laf is still more valuable than Podz. While Laf has been disappointing, 40 points is still ok, and is better than what Podkolzin has showed so far

Doesn’t seem like a good idea for New York

Lafreniere wasn't very good under coach Gerald Gallant.
I feel like he needs to play a new team and start from scratch.

I think it would be beneficial for him, but his potential is definitely worth more than Garland

I'd probably shoot myself if this was the return we got on laf
