Description
Free Agents:
Jarry to run tandem with Husso. I would like someone to be able to share the work load evenly. Signing him to 3 years ensures we have someone when Husso's contract runs out. Hopefully by then Cossa will be able to be a back up in the NHL.
Schenn to solidify 2/3RD. Ideally he will partner with Edvinsson whenever he is ready to play. He also provides some much needed physicality and grit to the team. He led the league in hits last season. Sound defensively as well. Played alot of top minutes last season and played well, should excel in a lesser roll. Could offer him more money to bring him here.
Heinen as a depth piece to fill in whenever possible.
ZAR as another depth piece, likely gets into the line up more. Could possibly offer him a bit more money, not sure what he's getting.

Trades:
Yams at 50% for Faksa and a second. Not sure the value of Yamamoto but he does play with alot of energy and maybe could be a complementary piece to Dallas for cheap. Faksa is a bit overpaid and if they felt like moving on he could be a decent fourth line centre. We could use his face-off and penalty killing skills.
Backlund trade only really happens if Calgary can't resign him. Not totally sure on the value, kind of went off the Toffoli trade. He would be a great 3C for us being very responsible defensively and still able to put up 40 points. I would expect to get a similar return at the deadline. Kubalik can help replace the offence lost with Toffoli.
Myers trade just to get a right handed defenceman to play 7th D or in Grand Rapids.

Faska is a dump making more than Yams, So Detroit isn't the one that would be retaining.

Not trading Kubalik and a 3rd for a 34 year old Backlund, Pass on the one as well.

It would take more than a 6th to take on Phillip Myers contract who's worthless.

Well we retain to get the second in the Dallas trade.
Backlund would be a great fill in for most of the season until Kasper is ready. I'm not that high on Kubalik and think Berggren can fill his offence. Also Backlund had one less goal and 12 more points last season than Kubalik. We get a positional advantage, a more defensively responsible player to help mentor.
Myers cap hit is only 250K in the minors. It won't cost much to dump and he could fill a spot in Grand Rapids. I have him as 7tg D until Edvinsson is good to go.

I’m not totally against signing Jarry, I just don’t think signing a goaltender for that amount and term necessarily aligns with the direction of this team and the position 2-3 years from now. I think a 2 year deal I’d feel a whole lot better about.

I could appreciate the anatomy of the Faksa deal however, I think we should get more.

I don’t like the buying of Backlund or any player for that matter. I’d rather sell Kubalik for a 2nd or a 3rd as opposed to packaging him with our own picks to get an upgrade for a half of an unimportant season.

I also think Kasper makes the team out of camp and plays the entire year up here unless an injury prevents him from doing so.

All ur other signings are negligible. I’m fine with them.

Husso's contract is up in two years. Cossa is going to be 2-3 years away. Augustine even more.
Faksa is a useful player. Really good PK and was 56% on draws this year. 19th in Selke voting add well this year along with 3 other years being in the top 25 there.
If we think Kasper is on the team then no need for Backlund but I don't consider this season unimportant. It's very important for the development of our young players. I want them to learn how to win and compete and surrounding them with good players that play responsible. I don't care about playoffs but I care about competing and being in the game every night. Last season we got better at that. With Kasper being hurt in his first game I'm unsure on his recovery time or what's going on with him. I planned to have him start in Grand Rapids. Another I want is have Grand Rapids be a good team as well. Also I think Backlund gets a real good return at the deadline to a playoff team that needs a centre.
One signing I really want is Schenn actually. He has impressed me this year. Also bringing in the league leader in hits always helps in my books.

I appreciate all your points. The Backlund deal maybe would be OK before the season and it’s always nice to be able to flip at the deadline. I tend to look for more of a Sean Monahan type deal where we get paid to take someone like say, Granlund from PIT and then retain on a trade later to get more assets back. I’ve been waiting for Yzerman to make those sort of creative moves like that but the closest we’ve gotten to something like that with him was the Nick Leddy deal(s).

I don’t think it as pressing of an issue to identify Ville Husso’s successor right now. I’d prefer to allow things to unfold as they may in 2 years time and sign someone else to a shorter 1-2 year deal. I’d rather face the challenge of Husso’s contract expiring by having to either re-sign him when the time comes or lure a good/better goalie to sign here to play tandem with Cossa.

I thought about Granlund but I don't like that he has two years and could prove difficult to move, plus Backlund is just better. I'm sure with retention of he bounced back a bit maybe get a small return but how much will he contribute to the team in comparison?
I'm not really trying to find a successor for Husso just trying to find someone to run tandem with. I would hope to sign someone who is pretty decent. Underrated name I have been looking at is Daccord, he could be a good target.
