I say under the radar because they have a chance to really prove themselves this season. Added more depth and more defence and hopefully a more healthy season from Hronek. Just overall some really fine additions. They can be a 4th/5th place pacific team.
Overall the team looks more better roster structure than it ever had these past few years. Petey had an incredible year. Miller started bouncing back. It was a big year for Hughes and it’s an even bigger one for him as he is now the captain. The problem is though the amount of wingers we have that can be in the top 6. Kuzzy, Beau, Boeser, Mikheyev, Garland. Moving one of them I feel like will need to happen at some point. It would have to be one of Garland, Boeser, or Beauvillier. It shouldn’t be a problem but I think it will become a problem especially when we have Hogs and Podz. One of them are bound to breakout and they will earn more and more ice time. Anyways I really like our bottom 6. They are more heavy on defence and also have offensive potential. Now here’s where I think things may change compared to where other fans have line up projections. I see Blueger as a 3C. He’s always been capable of it. For some reason I’m his days as a Penguin he was always thrown aside even when he was having a good year. When he was playing with Tanev and ZAR on the third line they were one of the best third lines in the league. But then Pittsburgh got Jeff Carter and things started to become limited for Blueger and his offensive production went down but defence was always stable. This is why I like him in Vancouver because he can provide a lot of defence and even offence. And then the addition of Suter is great cause he can provide a lot of defence and provide offence as well and pair them with Garland and I think they can be a solid third line. For the 4th line I think it’s important to keep Joshua and Aman together. They really provide the offence, defence, speed, and grit you need from a 4th line. Especially if you play one of Podz or Hogs with them. Young, fast, energetic, and all round good 4th line. On the blueline it looks good. Hughes has been becoming a better two way defender and one of the best offensively. It’ll be good for him to have Ian Cole as a partner because he can play those top minutes and Hughes will have a solid stay at home defender. Soucy and Hronek would be a good mix of offence and defence as well. Third pairing becomes questionable but I think will be decent once when things get figured out. Goaltending has some serious potential with Demko and Silovs. We just need Demko to be healthy.
I can see this being a fun year. Not yet at the top but we are on our way.
