Pouliot is a depth signing for the Sabres this season while LW's Nylander & Smith get closer to the NHL. Oilers are paying him $1.33m for next 4 seasons, so he's inexpensive for signing team. If he flames out and the Sabres send him to the minors, he'll cost roughly $100k against the cap. That's called a "no-lose" signing.
