Description
Under the impression Lehner doesnt sign with the Sabres. I dont know how talks are going, but it seems odd they'd drop 2.5 mil on a back up amd sign 2 other goalies. Goalie depth was an issue but i figured Ullmark was ready and Johansson was matured enough to start in the AHL. Not someone who would need ECHL starts. If Lehner signs they have a log jam at goalie, which is good, but expensive (5.5 mil dedicated to goalies at least). Griffith, Baptiste, Bailey, and Fasching are all interchangeable. I aimed for three solid lines, starting with the center, which left the RW with a lack of depth. Boterill finds cheap guys to play with top stars, so i want to try Griffith with Eichel. Griffith hasnt done anything at the NHL level yet but has been a solid performer in the AHL. If it doesnt work, they can plug in someone else. They arent sacrificing another player to try out Griffith up top. Eichel can bring out the best in linemates so the Sabres can see what this kid offers. The wild 4th can also be plugged in any position in the bottom 6. I would like more LW depth as one player is on his way out, 2 seem to be past their prime Deslauriers is only good to fill in for an injury and Girgensons is a huge question mark.

GMJB said in an interview that he didnt want an injury before the season starts (to Lehner) that Ullmark would have to step in as a starter. He signed Johnson in case that happens. It has nothing to do with Lehner and his future here.

I hope, Lehner has arbitration rights thats my biggest concern with that situation

I'm not high on Lehner myself. He really has no leverage in arbitration in my opinion. Sure, his numbers were solid. But throughout the season, he gave up many, many early goals that put us down off the bat. Additionally, he gave up far too many weak goals, not to mention didn't even touch a puck in the shootout. I can think of one game he stole for us (OT win in Montreal) other than that he just did enough to get us wins. Nilsson's record was better proportionally as well. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing what we could get for Lehner in a trade. I think Johnson and Ullmark could split starts roughly while Johansson starts in Rochester with Wilcox backing up and Kasdorf in Cincinnati. Just my thoughts...
