He's a UFA after this season. If they can't broker an extension or if he doesn't sign a deal with a team if he's moved at the deadline, the Flames don't have any control. He can simply walk away. No RFA rights.

We will not need to pay to get out from Garland, he’s going to play to the value of his contract and the cap is going to go up and the Canucks are going to trade him for free or a small return

If Garland is willing to switch to SJ I wouldn’t mind a trade for him! Obviously he has value so a 2nd and him for FC is crazy, I would do a 1 for 1 swap with Labanc, Kunin, or Zetterlund.
