Description

My hot take is that the Rangers as currently constructed will not win a Stanley Cup and it would be in their best interest to embrace an aggressive retool. Not a tanking style rebuild, but a retool that involves selling our high end players for top tier prospects and picks. This new roster would ideally cook for a few years and then be ready to truly contend after that.

Zibanejad isn't a number one centre on a Cup Winning Team. However he would be a perfect and extremely high end 2C on a Cup Winning Team. At 4.25m AAV he's cheaper and better than JK, and is a perfect fit to play behind Aho on the depth chart for win-now-mode Carolina.

Shesterkin's current contract is an absolute steal and Fitzgerald would likely be able to convince him to take below market value when it comes time to sign a new deal. The Rangers need to learn to stop relying on world-class goaltending to save their *****, but the contending Devils acquiring a talent like this in between the pipes might just put them over the edge

Chytil likely won't win the Hart until people like McDavid, Draisaitl, and Bedard are somehow out of the running

However this doesn't mean that he's not number one centre material. He looked fantastic last night. It was also shown in the Broadway Hat Video that he gave a speech before the game to rile everyone up. Zibanejad would never do that. Chytil is already more of a team leader than Zibanejad is. And his performance last night showed it. All Zibanejad did last night was argue with a referee and pass to Barclay Goodrow when he didn't need to. He is not a number one centre on a Cup Winning Team.

And Quick was great. He looked better than he did in preseason and it's because of Allaire. The team defense should always be taking care of whoever is in net. Whether that's Quick, Igor, Garand, Halak, Lundqvist, or anyone else
