VAN plugged holes with FA signings rather than with other teams' bad 1yr/2yr contracts (which would have come with picks and prospects). This was most likely done out of respect for the Sedins and/or out of the misguided notion that the window hasn't yet closed for this team. That is fine, as long as VAN can turn those FA signings in to the picks and prospect at this deadline or the next. Sutter can hopefully be flipped now as EDM presents a good opportunity. Then Eriksson, Gagner, and Del Zotto have to be deployed in ways that increase their value. There may be no hope moving Eriksson's contract but VAN is paying him 6M, may as well play him like he's worth it. Gagner as RW to the Sedins gives Henrik some extra support at center, like Pavelski does for Thorton. Hopefully it ends up padding Gagner's stats. Then, Del Zotto can hopefully look like a solid puck mover with Tanev as his anchor. PHI was unable to move him at the last deadline but eh, JB signed him, so lets make the most of it. I also like the idea of playing Goldobin with Burmistrov. Let's hope for some Russian chemistry and maybe we can lure Tryamkin back.
