They would be doing this to help themselves, as all teams set out to do in any trade. If you're saying it's a fair offer then you're suggesting it would help them. GMs usually don't let fan rivalries get in the way of making the decision that is best for their team, as proven by the Debrincat to Detroit trade, or the acquisition of players like Phaneuf and Zaitsev from the Leafs. This trade has a lot more value coming their way than either of those, and would leave them with a lot more than they'd have when Chych inevitably walks after next year.
