The only factor I didn't mention was Campbell has 3 seasons left and Petersen only had 2 seasons left on his contract.

So the slight over payments of upgrading the 2nd Rd pick to a 1st Rd and upgrading the prospect from a "c" level to "b" level should make up the difference.

I don’t hate this deal, however this isn’t hitting the mark!
Sharks don’t need the retention or Ceci as much as they need picks and prospects!
Think the sharks offer up better pieces in return and remove the retention to upgrade the pick to 2025 1st and add a 26 2nd.

I think the SJS owner cares about the retention... wasn't one of Grier's stumbling blocks on trading EK65 was that the owner demanding the best trade with the least amount cash retained.

The Ceci part will be just like Phi getting Walker added into the trade, an easy UFA rental the team can trade for more picks from a desperate playoff contender at the TDL.

The difference was Karlsson was discussed at 50% retained to max value and paying 5.75 mil a year for a player to play on another club for 4 years is stomach churning.
Next season Sharks are likely playing near the cap floor and therefore the need for the retention is outweighed by the additional return we could get without it.

True, that's the hard part in comparing Petersen and Campbell, the Petersen trade had a third team involved wanting Provorov for a 1st and 2nd Rd pick, but Phi didn't want to retain cash on it, so LAK did the deed.

My guess is the Flyers didn't want to help a Conference rival so LAK did the cash retain.

That was a big component of the deal! Makes comps very hard

Karlsson was about the insane requests for 50% retention. We retained on Burns at 33%. Hasso has plenty of cash

If SJS is ok with eating the full contract, I guess that'll get them a 2nd Rd pick added more out of Edm to this trade proposal.

Well quick edit, Oilers don't have many 2nd Rd to offer, so lets put a 3rd Rd'er of SJS choice in there.
