RFA's signed, trading for RNH and E. Staal.

Description
Helps EDM with cap situation for 2018-2019 and helps forward depth and leadership considering the fact that it is a pretty young locker room. I feel if Franson doesn't get a contract come August, he'll take a discount to come and play for a contender in Nashville. This would complete the best defense in the NHL and it'd allow Nashville to roll 3 defensive pairs against any team. The conditions on the Staal trade are a bit steep, but it'd be worth it provided either of the situations become a reality. This would mean that NSH is going for the cup run and they'd probably end up like WSH cap wise 2 years for now.

I don't get the reasoning behind the Staal trade

Why would the wild do that? They are win now

Also, internal cap...

Yeah, it's not the greatest for them right now, but the central is going to be competitive and this could be a trade deadline deal if the Wild have a chance of not making the playoffs. Conditions and picks could be moved to the next year.

*Maybe* a deadline deal for Staal. But it's a pretty unlikely probability that MIN isn't in the playoffs or knocking on the door. They are quite good, especially with Granlund / Niedereitter in the fold.

RNH deal is light. Have to think a team like NYI would pay more than that (read: they're desperate to make Tavares happy). There are a few other teams out there who would pony up more assets for RNH.

Your are very right, on both aspects. However, the RNH trade is more of a cap dump for EDM and Jarnkrok is in an amazing contract for a 3C. The second is just an add on. So unless the other teams (Islanders) are giving up mainly picks, I don't see EDM doing it because of the Draisaitl/Mcdavid contract situation. On the Staal trade, I'm not saying that they are bad, I'm just saying that the entire Central is going to be good. Dallas is just amazing, Winnipeg is going to be a playoff bound team from now on, and Colorado isn't a bad team. They just had a bad year after going on a bad streak during Nov/Dec and couldn't recover.

I saw an Oilers fan post the same trade for RNH, so, while I would be eager to make it, I am not sure it is far off. If we do get RHN, I see no reason for Staal. I would hate to lose Jarnkrok. Great to have a utility forward who can help anywhere at a great contract.
