Lines are weird asf but also if the time to win is now we have to upgrade Ceci. We won't win with him playing in the top 4, we've tried and we see he is just not that player.

Honestly - I don't think the Sens want to use both their available retention slots for Kubalik and Tarasenko. Just because they can probably get more for a 3rd party retention than the difference between Kubalik unretained and retained.

Kubalik sucks and it's probably a 4th which we couldn't get with kubalik at full price

So if they trade Tarasenko with 50% retention to maximize the return for him, + Norris is LTIR - they can retain 50% on any rental. Being 3rd party retaining $3.75M on Hanafin is going to be better for getting assets than trading Kubalik at ½ price.

Drop Kubalik for 7th or Frank Charlie without retention or just don't trade him.

Arizona got a 3rd for retaining on 2.625 mill Kane. Hanifin would be 1.2375 assuming Calgary retains half of the 4.95
