Description

As mentioned in the title, Bad Contract for Bad Contract- Caps get less Cap in return, but 1 more year in Campbell, making the potential buyout longer, but cheaper- with Kuzy if this his basically last shot doesn't work, then buy him out in the summer, his buyout cap hit according to this site is $2m for this and next year, so would save Edmonton the term of the Campbell buyout, but slightly more for the 2 buy out years, but the way I'd view it, saving $3m off Campbell's main deal for 2 years as opposed to 3, and less dead money longer term...
Personally, I think Holloway needs to be minors bound to get his offensive reps and called up just before or during the playoffs.. With those moves frees up another $1.2m for another potential move for a better back up G or see if there's another middle 6 F they could get for cheap...
While pushing Brown down the depth chart further(cause they don't seem to want to get rid of him because he can PK???) and throw in Gagner when more offense is needed...

Horrible trade for Washington. They have 10 mil free in cap relief with Backstrom on LTIR. They buyout Kuzy its on their books for 2 years. Makes no sense to take on a major issue in Campbell.

Caps decline. They can easily eat kuzy for next szn. Even if theyd rather buy him out its cheaper to do that than to acquire campbell. + u want dowd?

Ohh I 100% get it from the Caps end too, I'd likely do the same thing, minors until the off season and buy him out, but you never know with GMBM maybe he's down to take a chance on Campbell with Lindgren gone after this year to back up Darcy- again just a spitballing an idea to save them $4.1m(Dowd's hit to0) next season to add to Backy's LTIR savings- could give the Caps alot of wiggle room to go big game hunting in the offseason for a top line C-but doubting Kuzy or Campbell get traded and both bought out in the off season..

Also just realized Lindgren has one more year, should he not be dealt at the TDL this year..

Only other thing I would say is that I would be shocked if they move Kuzy before the TDL. I think there's a very high chance that he realizes he does not actually want to play in Hershey and comes to WSH looking for a contract termination to either sign a 1xmin deal with a contender or go back to Russia. I don't hate the idea of WSH taking on Campbell, but they have so much room and so many options that I would want to get a premium asset to do so.

I checked, and should they take on Campbell deal Dowd and buy out Campbell in the offseason- with Backy's LTIR status they'd have just under $24m for the offseason, should they keep Kuzy and deal Dowd anyways and LTIR Backstrom, they'd have just over $21m in space- so one way or another they're gonna have a lot of space to do either option.. But I doubt Kuzy looks for a contract termination when he's going to be getting paid sooo much more playing in Hershey the rest of the season and getting bought out in the summer time to bolt to Russia or sign that cheap deal elsewhere next season...
