First, I believe Lias will make a strong showing in pre-season. However, I believe NYR will ultimately allow him to go back to the SHL to play consistent top-6 mins and be the leader of Frolunda (one of the top development teams in the world). He may even play in the 8-9 games he is allowed prior to being sent back. Obviously that complicates the Kerfoot signing. However, NYR signing Kerfoot depends largely on what they believe they have in Lias.

If Kerfoot signs with NYR, he does not start the season in the lineup without beating Pumps out of the spot (which, could happen). However, upon the return of Fast; a line combo of Grabner-Kerfoot-Fast could be quite deadly.

Holden moved to clear cap space + roster spot

Zero cap space is not ideal. They would need to figure a way to open a roster spot when Fast comes back from injury. I doubt Beregalazov is sent down simply because of his out-clause. That opens a trade of Pumps/DD/Grabner (if his production does not match last).
And in the worst case scenario. Suppose Mika gets injured...the season would probably be over because of the lack of center depth, could also move Nash/Jagr at the deadline to a contender.
