Genius trade series: THE MCJESUS'S

Created by: DontToewsMe19
Team: 2017-18 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 18, 2017
Published: Aug. 18, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
First look: The Oilers are searching for a deep playoff run after making the playoffs AND going to the second round last year. The defense looks solid once Sekera is healthy. However, they could use another top 6 goal scorer to play with McDavid and Maroon. James Neal is exactly that.

The trade: Caleb Jones and a 2018 1st round pick for James Neal. Now this is a lot to give up for a rental, but it's okay if Edmonton can make a push for the cup. Neal can put up 40-50 goals with McDavid (most likely) and a first and a prospect is good. Vegas doesn't need anymore D-men, but they can flip him for something else.

Where will Edmonton finish: I think the Oilers will finish 2nd in the Pacific, behind the Ducks.

Edmonton fans would probably scream "it's way too much" for Neal, but this may be the perfect scenario for both Neal and the Oilers. Vegas would be crazy not to accept the above, but I wonder if Jones and a 2nd might get the same result? Neal is much better on his natural wing, so I might consider moving Lucic down, having Strome play the 1st line RW, and moving Jokinen to the right side. Should they make this deal, I think Oilers are one move away (a Dman) from serious contention. RNH + should make that happen.

I actually forgot to put Lucic down on the second line. If Maroon can play RW then that'd be alright.

Smack not sure how to answer this except with a smile! Can't remember ever seeing Neal (except on the PP) playing the right side. Never in Nashville! That's some great pre scouting info you got. . . . and should hang onto!

See the problem with that is it is alot but that's not my main issue. My main problem is that if you do put Neal on the left wing the right wing is still weak. I don't want to see Strome on the top line because i feel like he will produce fairly well. Yes that sounds stupid but read the rest. Strome is in a contract year and evidenced by the Draisaital deal teams remember only contract year. Now I don't expect him to put up Draisaital numbers but I'd rather put Nuge on the top line heightening his value and have Strome play on the third line then sign him to a reasonable deal and then play him wherever
