17-18 Calgary Flames+ Some PTO options

Created by: Sanintarious
Team: 2017-18 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 29, 2017
Published: Aug. 29, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Bennett signs for 2 years, 1 less year than Connor Brown, but for a slight increase in cap hit.

Jahr signing will come with 1M signing bonus, and 2M are part of the 35+ age bonuses. Which would include games played, goals, assists, ice time etc.

As always there will be some guys in on PTO's to fill out split squad rosters. Some guys who could fit these roles include:

Winnik- C
PA-Parenteau- RW
Scottie Upshall-LW/RW

Flames are very tight up against the cap. I expect Stajan or Brouwer could see some AHL time to save some cap space for later in the year.

Just some quick notes for reference...

- Jagr or any player signing bonus counts towards cap hit - split between contract years so with a 1 year - 100% for that year - signing bonuses also count BUT can be differed to the next year if needed. So a large bonus could really hurt next year...

- as for saving cap space by sending Stajan or Brouwer to the AHL - both have no trade clauses and could say no - plus you only save the standard value - example - sending brouwer down you would still take a cap hit of 3.475 so savings would only be 1.025 but you would then want to call up a rookie - say min contract of 650K = net savings of 375k - if done for the whole season!

- as for PTO's - wont get many if you don't have any cap space to sign at least one!

- A much cheaper PTO signing with less - I'm old as dirt - risk : )... How about Huds! Last time they played him with Bennett for a whole game Bennett scored 4 goals!!!!

I get the Jagr signing bonus to an extent. The full 3M would be used on this years cap, or some could be differed to next year. I think the reasoning for bonuses would be incase Jagr has completely fallen of this year. If he has a great year, then Flames won't have any problem giving him the full bonuses, but at least if he under performs, it would save the Flames some actual dollars.

As per Stajan and Brouwer. My understanding is both have M-NTC. But neither have NO-MOVMENT clauses. Which means they can be demoted to the AHL. I understand neither move save much in cap space. I only say they could be demoted if they feel a youth player would be better served in the roles. Or if they feel perhaps a team will take them off their hands at the waiver discount.

Just some thoughts. I would ignore Hudler. He is one of those guys who completely fell off a cliff since being traded out of Calgary. Even before the trade he had a really rough season.
