Bonino is a veteran forward who can be used in a variety of roles. In San Jose he was deployed in all situations. I don't see Bonino being used on the Pittsburgh primary power-play but he can match up against second lines and definitely contribute on the penalty kill. Bonino doesn't play a heavy game (only 17 hits on the season) but he's proficient shot blocker (74). In short, he's a bit of 'swiss army knife'. The Pens are familiar with the player and he plays to an identity they trust. Adding more draft capital (in San Jose) is sound business - even if the picks are later in the draft.
