Pens trade bait list rn and what is Hextall even able to do
Good summary of where theyre at imo. Not many great replacements especially with the cap. Pens and Hextall have said pretty adamantly their 1st round pick is off the table and I think they mean it.
My wishlist would be...
#1 - 3rd Line center
#2 - Move Dumo but only if you can replace with a top4 D
#3 - A bottom six depth piece
Adding any of these while unloading Blueger, Kap, McGinn, or Dumo would be a win in my book, and neccasary for the cap. Cap is going to kill a lot of moves, majority of teams have no room.

Maybe if he was a RFA, but anything more than 3rd for a struggling UFA seems like too big of an risk for a 3rd/4th liner. I agree I wouldnt want McGinn either tho lol

I agree Chychrun could be worth a bigger return based on the market, I am suprised STL and CHI are so attached to Barb and Domi tho, Domi's is an UFA with a -$2m market value, and Barbashev is solid but its hes not great eaither with a market value of 2.2m and also a UFA. Idk what STL is doing but i thought CHI was for sure rebuilding, and would rather have the gaurenteed pick then let them walk in FA

Idk Athletic says Domi's not that great (https://theathletic.com/3989390/2023/01/30/nhl-player-cards-chicago-blackhawks-2/). Says Blueger has more value then him, Kap is a cap dump mainly but still has some value but thats what the extra pick is for

What is STL looking for? Barbasev is comparable to McGinn (https://theathletic.com/3989395/2023/01/30/nhl-player-cards-st-louis-blues-2/) and he doesnt need to be resigned, + a pick on top. This is a 27 yo 3rd liner what more could you expect?

Malkin?
Yes Please! Lets take 2 no names with huge contracts and give you Malkin! He has more points then both of them combined. 1st rounder just sweetens the deal too the penguins definitely need one they gave away theirs the past few years specifically so they could get St. louis's. GMJR must have a Magic ball to see this coming. Makes both teams so good they'll probably go 82-0-0 and meet in the Stanley cup. Probably both win too cause both teams get exactally what they need. Pens desperate for a hurt LW and a slow washed up d man, and all they have to give up is a 1+ PPG player!?!@ What a steal. Only problem here is that Teresenko and Malkin aren't on the same line. Who cares with a team this good you could probably just run 6 attackers, no need for goalies so trade them to EDM for some 1st round picks. Then well trade those to PIT for Crosby and Give some to WSH for Ovechkin, and hey Maybe the hawks will take 2 2nds for Kane? This team would be beast we'd make so much money from jerseys we could buy like 10000 gold packs from EA and definitely pull a Stamkos or Kopitar. Where do i Sign up to be a GM me and NickC1988 just found the winning formula!

Geno
Evgeni Malkin will be a Pittsburgh penguin for the next 7 years, thats why they signed him for that long. Why would they give away one of the top 10 players in the League for some no names. And a 1st round pick? Someone should have told Jim Rutheford not to give away the Penguins 1st round picks the last few years, because clearly they want/need them. Maybe talk to Edmonton I hear they like em. In Fantasy Land tho i give it an A because I'd like to see Malkin and Terasenko play together. Someone should make a league where National teams can play each other like Canada vs Russia, would be dope.

Schultz if having success with Pit, why would they want to get rid of him? Not to mention Franson's older and doesn't fit well with the Pens. And just a side bit because of the NHLCBA players very rarely will go down in salary unless they get the added security of a long deal.

Lottery Winners
The only reason they should sign Mathews is so they can trade him for a Top 1 Defense man and/or Goaltender. When are they gonna give up trying to sign every talented 1st round forward.... its worked out so well so far. You have McDavid don't waste it. Get him some defense that can get him (and the hoard of other 1st rounders they have) the puck. No wonder Yakupov wants out they have no team identity (besides maybe handicapping all star players) and terrible coaching. At some point you have to stop collecting offensive prospects and start building a TEAM. Why would penguins give up 2 prospects for that **** that doesn't help them? Montreal maybe picks up Yakupov doubt for a 1st considering is public that he wants out. If they didn't get rid of JVR this deadline they want him moving forward but even if it does happen its just another forward that will only touch the puck when he's pulling it out of his net. But go ahead sign Mathews I'd love to watch another generational talent play 3/4 of the game in his zone and score on the occasional breakaway or PP goal.

Bennett trade is horrible... Bennett is a 1st round pick and when he's healthy hes very good not to mention that he's only 24. If the Pens do end up trading him which I don't see happening because injured or not he's one of the last few prospects the Pens have, they'll at least get someone decent back and probably a pick not give one up. I wouldn't mind see Despres back but not for Bennett he has too much potential to give away. Lovejoy for Despres was fucking dumb even Rutheford says he wouldnt make that trade again.

I really like this trade actually, both former 1st rounders that are struggling with their current clubs; however I think Cole's horrible year has hurt his value significantly so I would imagine a low round pick would have to be included but as a Pens fan I would be more than happy to get rid of Cole for Kindl and maybe a 3rd? Maybe it works out like the Hagelin and Perron trade and they both find their grove with a new team.

Yea Rutheford fucked up with Cole & Lovejoy hopefully he fixes it. Honestly I can't believe Mario hasn't fired his ass already. I agree Cole is going to be a tough move, he has a pretty low cap and he was a 1st round pick so maybe he holds enough potential to get a pick in return but he has to go somehow. and if Rutheford can get anything back ill be happy.

Penguins 6.0

Quoting: myteam

The AZ trade is never going to happen. Too low of an offer to them.
It would take at a minimum a first rounder to get BOEDKER, one more to get HANZEL, and maybe a third for MICHALEK. If you really wanted to make the deal work it would probably include MURRAY, BENNET, SPRONG, and a 2nd. Then you could add PERRON and KUNITZ to offset salary.
BONINO = STEWART, lateral move here IMO
No way the sharks deals VLASIC for that package. too low.
The PENS do not really have the assets to acquire talent via trade right now. The biggest trade chips the pens have for futures are MURRAY and SPRONG. BENNETT is no longer a prospect, and looks more like an often injured player. Not sure how much trade value he would have.... maybe a third rounder.

The Bonino trade was a lateral trade Wing for Center. The Sharks are getting old they need to start going younger cause they havn't been a contender for a long time so something needs to change. They've got a lot of old players with huge contracts the point of this trade was to take a bigger contract off them and replace it with a young prospect and a pick. I don't value Vlasic that high so if they accept if cool if not then send Cole to AHL or deal him somwhere else but it was just a way to get rid of him. The ARI deal is great for them Bennet and Perron were both 1st round picks... and Kunitz had 40 points last season and Perron had 57 the year before. The big thing here is ARI gets younger players for their older ones that need to be resigned in 1 or 2 years. For a young team like ARI this is a great deal for them as they now have players like Domi, Duclair, and Ekman Larsson to build around. They also get Plotkinov who was very good in the KHL but has had some bad luck transitioning into the NHL. even if he doesn't get up to his KHL standard hes still a big body with decent skill who has been great on the 4th line for the pens this year.

EDM What would you do for a... Starting Goalie?
Nilsson has always been bad, and Talbot was suppose to fix things but they learned real quick he's just a backup. Theres no question they need a solid guy in between the pipes if they're going to win. Both of they're current goalies are just under 3 GAA. (They are also just barley keeping a save % above .9 ,which is terrible for a staring goalie in the NHL)This would give them a #1 that they can secure for a while as Murrays only 21. Theyd have to give something up to get that and they have a surpus of offense if they plan on building around McDavid they're going to need to get some solid defenders and goal tending this gives them both. It also frees up more cap space for them so come off season they can sign/resign some defense men because a lot of their defense will need to be signed and maybe they can target someone like Byf. Bennet was a 1st round pick and when he isn't hurt hes been a top pairing wing, and Clendening is still young and maybe not NHL ready yet but is a great puck moving defesemen that a team with the offensive talent of EDM need. Also just for fun out of 40 Goalies both EDMs are 38 & 39 ( http://espn.go.com/nhl/statistics/player/_/stat/goaltending/sort/avgGoalsAgainst )

Puliot and Perron are they only bright spots in the return for Tampa, Theyre going to be looking for something big. Perron needs to be resigned next year which is not good from TBL perspective, I think if you threw in Bennet and maybe something else like Clendening to help the Lightning long term they might consider. Puliot is highly regarded but has had some issues so itd be a little bit more of a risk for Tampa, and I all I've heard of Jerry is hes not bad so cant really say much there. Could have something here, but I don't think its in the Pens interest to pursue these guys because Tampa is going to want to maximize return and I don't think theyll be worth giving up the last few trade chips the Pens have.
