I'm not crazy high on McLeod either but you're still essentially giving away two firsts, and a third for a guy who doesn't even fit this system. I'm also not giving up a first this year unless it's for a bonafide stud that's not a rental, draft is crazy deep with forwards this year and depending on where we finish, we really need a bluechip forward

Lol the nino trade won't even come close to working, kinkaid is not a bonafide starter so trading schnieder to a divisional rival and at the cost is a complete no go, and you're high if you think that Russian trash is coming anywhere near an NHL club, let alone this one.

Three upgrades to the core your thoughts
I don't mind the fabbri trade although I think it may cost more, they wouldn't accept the deal for muzzin, and I'd rather keep zetterlund so maybe McLeod and a first but at the same time this team I don't believe should be giving up firsts just yet especially since we don't know where this season will end up and how loaded the first round is in forward talent that we lack in our pool

Lol he's a second pairing guy on most teams and being 30 is not being in your prime. Regardless 3 years at 5.5 mil per knocks down the price on any trade. Again, he's a best a second round pick

A player at 30 years old who's best year was 42 points and is a second pairing guy on almost every team with a cap hit of 5.5 mil for 3 more years is not worth a first lol not to any team besides Edmonton maybe or the isles

he's a 6'3 rhd and has 3 more years on his contract. pretty sure he can fetch a 1st rd pick. if pleky got a 2nd rd pick plus 2 prospects, petry can get wayy more.</div></div>
Just because the leafs overpaid for plekanec doesn't mean another player fetches more. Not saying he's a bad dman but he's worth a second at best

Lol petry is nowhere near a first. Just cause he's playing top pairing minutes doesn't give him that kind of value. Plus it's a deal we don't need to do

Cause after pesce, you're defense can never truly get better. It will literally be a revolving door of dmen since none can stick if they perform well due to the leafs cap crunch.

So out of those only rielly and pesce are sure fire things. And pesce is really the only one good at defense. Sandin is still young and is purely an offensive dman, Dermott is strictly an offensive dman and is just okay at best, zaitsev is awful lol and is nowhere near that contract he got, liligren might be okay and the Russian dude again is okay at best. So this defense is still pretty bad going forward and it's even younger and than what happens when they start wanting money? Lol again pesce is a short term help not long term

Yeah but what than they let Gardiner and hainsey go? And than still have plenty of other players to tender especially if they have good years this year? It still doesn't work regardless and Toronto will still have a D problem going forward regardless and still won't be able to fix it

Sure the canes have the best young d available and the cap space, but it does nothing for the leafs cap situation going forward. That's the hardest part for the leafs in this trade. They can't take back a sizeable contract back unless they want a one and done cup chase this year

Thread:
Nylander trade almost feels impossible
The issue with most nylander based trades is they all want premier offensive dmen who have pretty decent cap hits. So that does nothing for the cap issue in Toronto going forward. And you can say oh well gardiner and hainsey will go and Horton on LTIR but that still leaves the leaf with no dmen and you still got alot of other players to tender as well. So sadly I don't think Toronto will get a huge win in a trade for nylander that they'd like. Their best case scenario trade is for someone like santini who is a shutdown guy, young, and under a great contract for 3 years who can play on the second pairing. You get him, someone like rielly Walsh a 1st and another piece and that's what you're looking at. It works for the leafs for the cap going forward, they get a good young dman who can shutdown, a quality offensive dman in the system a first and another piece

Sign Ebs in the off-season to wing with Hall and Nico.
Grab Duchene at the TDL and were set! Now try and pay them all!
Hall/Nico/Ebs
Wood/Duchene/Palms
Marjo/Zacha/Bratt
Texas1/Zajac/Texas2
Boyle/Q</div></div>
Smith is a non starter and that can be worked around. And they don't need another impact offensive dman they need a young shutdown guy who's cost controlled for cheap. They need a dman to play now and Walsh can be something they work with to throw in in a year or two. That's why this deal makes sense for them for now and the future and it's all cost controlled

Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shaners79</b></div><div>I actually think that's a fair deal. Santini is a good defenseman with no real flair, just a reliable guy. Then you have Walsh who has been getting praised in Harvard as a puck moving D man. Throw in a first and I think you have a pretty good outline for a trade. The thing that really gets me is leaf fans want the world for Nylander....but won't give him anywhere near what he's looking for. So what is he to the Leafs? They seem to be thinking he's not worth paying that kinda money for putting up 60 points. Maybe he is thinking he wants a contract like 8 million because he sees himself as a comparison to someone like Tarasenko.</div></div>
Yeah I threw a first into that cause a first will be In every deal. Leaf fans also have to remember that and big name dman they want to help them now still won't help their cap situation and they need a young shutdown guy not another offensive dman. At least Walsh gives them a solid prospect on defense who could grow with them and shows real promise. And they get santini for 3 years at a little over a mil. Now dubas' may want a more high end dman or prospect, but they can't afford more high end now and they are a win now team so prospects don't do anything for them.
