If Taylor Hall is Traded, Where Does He Go?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brian2016</b></div><div>How much will it cost? I think Shero will def. want a skilled roster player in return.
I'm thinking whoever acquires him will need assurance that he'll sign an extension. They'll need the $11M AAV in cap space so sorry Leafs fans. I don't think you can spend $66M on forwards. I think Montreal is a possibility. Maybe Drouin plus a 1st. Perhaps EDM gives up Bouchard and sends Larsson back where he started.
As a lifelong Devils fan, I'm not really entirely convinced that signing Hall to an 8 year $11M+ AAV extension is actually in the best long term interest of the team. Are they better of long term with Hall or w/o Hall?
Realistically, it could take a couple more years before their young core is ready for prime time. They could be better off drafting a couple more high picks and stockpiling a couple prospects or young roster players. They'll have loads of cap space if they do trade Hall and the future will be bright regardless. Their depth at Center is particularly strong, but they need to add a couple big, tough, physical Defense man to balance out their team. They've been dominated in front of their own net on 2nd and 3rd chances.</div></div>
With that said, the fantasy world of, "LETS GET CRAZY" town tells me the would need to get a haul of prospects being at least 2 blue chips and a first in this years draft. That way their timetable is consistent with whoever they get in this draft and their two number one overall picks they already have. Likely its a blue chip d man prospect and a blue chip forward prospect, along the lines of maybe, oh idk lets just say, St. Louis, Vince Dunn, Robert Thomas, and lets just say one of Steen or Bozak for contract space.

Simple answer, he doesn't. The devils will try everything in their power to resign him and if they fail, ten they know they tried. If they keep him, they will be a cup contender in 2-3 years, if it doesn't come together, they will never get a fair trade for Hall and they will maybe be living in the dread of the world of what if.

Remember when Blues traded Ben Bishop because they had Halal, Elliott, and Allen? Pepperidge Farm remembers...

Very lucky we got a number 1 in the draft after getting rid of a kid with that much potential.

Blues Young Guys
I agree (No one is a bigger advocate for Kostin than me) but, I think giving him reps and ice time is more important to his development than anything. He is finally starting to get used to the western style of play and size of ice, now is when he needs reps, if he can get that in the NHL, GREAT. If he can't, keep him down for most of this year and bring him up late so he can at least a little bit of time when injuries come in to play.

What do the Canes need to add to become a lock at postseason play?
I have no idea why the argument for this team being good is focused on their forwards. They have a filthy D core that I would argue is now the best in the league. Slavin is absolutely elite, Pesce is great, Hamilton now with free reign over his power play is fantastic as an offensive asset, Gardner (no matter your opinion from Toronto is) is a highly skilled option that will be elite put next to a defensively sound option. ALSO, their top 6 is filled with Edmonson, a PK specialist with very surprising offensive upside, and whichever prospect is top of the pile (they have many good options, Fluery, or TVR, Ect). Their forwards are young and fast and if you think they are good now give them 2-3 years.
Now, for all of you pissing and whining that they are a goaltender away from winning a cup, the trend throughout the league is two reasonably solid options and a cheap and young third option with potential. Cause remember the Blackhawks and Darling, and Pittsburgh and Murray, you are only as good as your second, and third string goalie.
I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH- THIS MODEL CAN WORK IF, AND ONLY IF, Your D core AND defensive system is SOLID (Islanders being the good example, Oilers being the bad)
This isn't the days of goalies getting 70 starts and then 20 more in the playoffs, a 45, 35 split is better for load management and keeps you better prepared for back to backs. And they don't have the issue of "their guy" getting hurt or even cold at the wrong time. This team is good enough right now, and they are only going to get better over time, so they have a very large window that hopefully, if the hockey gods are good and don't frown upon good team building and taking advantage of desperate teams, will win a cup within the next 5 years.

(CAR/STL) - Faulk & 2020 5th for Edmundson, Bokk & 2021 7th
This trade makes sense if you consider the excess of both teams and the deficiencies of both teams. The Blues largest hole last year was easily their power play, which Faulk is a specialist at (Your opinion on how effective he is at this is your own). The Hurricanes have an excess of good defense and have a direct upgrade for Faulk in Dougie Hamilton, and he is just begging to be given more power play time to let him run free. They replace the roster spot with Edmonson, but the real value they get back is more quality powerplay time for Dougie, and Bokk. Your opinions on Bokk as a prospect can be whatever but as a European prospect he would fit in with the Hurricanes young core perfectly. The Hurricanes don't have a deficiency on young good European prospects and players, but you really cant have too much a good thing if it costs you nothing to the quality of your defense. And for St Louis, they have an excess of young forward prospects, IE Thomas, Kostin, Blais, Barbishev, and Fabbri, and they are all further along than Bokk, so the Blues are dealing out of their stacked deck. All in all, Hurricanes get good pieces back and give up a piece they don't have a need for, and St Louis fills one of their few real needs while giving up an asset they have lots of. In my eyes a real "win win trade" with potential bigger wins for either team depending on the development of Bokk or the effectiveness of Faulk in St Louis's system.
