Ready to contend
PensGoater99 I hope you realize that adding top 4 defensemen in the NHL is probably one of the hardest things to do, given that they take so long to develop and are unpredictable, so why in gods name would Vancouver, Anahiem, Carolina and Edmonton giveup 4 of these types of players for every single scrub the Leafs have to offer, sprinkled in with B level prospects and a couple of 1st/2nd picks. It not a trade worth making for any of these teams, especially Edmonton and Vancouver. Holy **** this is so bad

Leafs 2018
I don't see how Zatisev ( who frankly isn't all too good and signed to a equally bad contract) and a realtively unproven prospect lands you Spurgeon, who is a 2-3 defensemen for the Leafs right away. Also why in the **** would Buffalo who with Dahlin will finally have a solid defence decide to move Risto for Gardiner and a 1st. Gardnier is not as good as some might value him, and he isn't likely to move. Quite frankly a defensemen who cant play defence isn't what the Sabres need, and the first doesn't do much for Buffalo either given that its likely a late pick, Buffalo doesn't need picks they need to start building around its core of Eichel, Dahlin and RISTO.

Moves Leafs could make to improve
I honestly don't see how its that bad, A.Brooks and McEneny are essentially throwins on both sides and don't need to be included, so in essence the trade is Bracco, Carrick, 2 2nds for Tanev , a 5th and a 7th. I don't know about you but I don't think that Carrick has a ton of value, he's mostly a 3rd paring defensemen with some offense, so the 5th and 7th should suffice. The trade than becomes Tanev, who despite his injury history is a solid 2-3 defensemen for the Leafs, plus he has some chemistry with Reilly and most importantly he's not overpaid. As for what the Leafs lose, they give up a decent prospect who likely plays a middle six role in the NHL and 2 2nds which aren't likely to be very high, plus more than anything they are unpredictable. If anything the offer you mentioned seems like more of an overpayment. I know you could argue that Carrick and Brooks still have upside but given that the Leafs are about to enter a cap crunch, they cant keep banking on upside for mid twenties players, they need to go out and get a proven product that can help this team make a playoff run before they have to pay the likes of Marner, Mathews Nylander.

Pacific Divisions Best Team?
I guess mostly for a dman that was reasonably priced that would be a upgrade over Paul Martin and also be able to fit under the cap... couldn`t think of anyone other than Coburn
Got any suggestions for one?
I was also thinking Nick Hjalmarsson but I think he might be to pricey

oh yeah I should have brought back world beaters and perennial 30 goals scorers Jonas Donskoi and Janik Hansen. Nash is a 50 point guy and a full season of Kane should help the team. Coburn is a slight upgrade over Martin, otherwise the defence and goalies remain unchanged. Plus the sharks can expect improvement from Meier and Labanc.. so yeah I don't see how this team is worse than last year, might not have significantly improved but definitely not worse.

Vancouver
Not sure I agree with you on the Washington trade. The picks the Canucks are sending are in the 5th and sixth round and the guys they are sending don't really appear to have a future with the team. Granlund is nothing more than a solid penalty killer and 3/4th line winger. Hutton, has some upside but isn't very consistent to warrant keeping him. The trade with Washington clears roster spots fro younger players to take up while also giving the Canucks two higher picks. Plus they get a solid defensive prospect in Siegenthaler, who I think has all the potential to be a good number 4 type defenseman. I agree with you on the Caroline trade and looking at it again realize its probably not worth it for the team to make, however, much like hutton and granlund I don't see Goldobin having much of a future with the team either and think its best to move on from him while his value is still pretty good

Sabres sign Tavares, trade ROR
Lool not going to bash on this post to much, realizing a lot of post are fantasy but no way in hell does Tavares sign with the Buffalo, he would be more likely to sign with the Islanders and maybe 15-20 other teams before the Sabres. Trades aren't bad however, but just cant see Tavares ever being interested in Buffalo

Focus on the team for next year and beyond
I agree that having Kevin Hayes as your second line centre is not great in any way, however this team reflects what the Rangers should do come trade deadline day if they are still out of a playoff picture. Hayes can hold down that spot as the Rangers finish off the season with lottery aspirations. Secondly they have more cap room after theses trades and would get even more if they decide to buy out players like Callahan, Beleskey or Staal , which they could ultiamtley use to add a center via free agency to push Hayes down the lineup. Secondly I don't see how this makes the Rangers that much older. They are getting younger players in Brett Howden, Adam Erne and Jakub Zboril, that have some upside, while also adding picks in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th rounds. They need to start building up their prospect pool to add to the younger guys that they have on the roster (MIller, Krider, Hayes, Fast, Vesey, Buch, Zibanejad).

Selling High
This is terrible, Backstrom means as much to the team as Ovi. He is an elite centre who`s consistently put up 60-70 points a year. There is no way this trade happens at that return.

Sign Doan
Honestly I`ve always thought Shane Doan would be a great fit with the Blues as a bottom six player. There would be no need to over play him in any situations and he`s a competitor at heart as well as a leader for any tema he play`s for. This would be a perfect fit and allow him to take one last run at the cup, because on paper this roster is solid, but than again it is the Blues...

HABS Retool
I think that the NJ trade is closer than it seems. Pacioretty is easily the best player in this trade and still only 28, which means he still has atleast four good years left as a 60-75 point guy which is a premium in this league. Henrique is 27 which doesn't make him that much younger that Pacioretty and based on his point totals last year and one in the past he probably is more of a 40-50 point guy. In order to begin to match up in value it was only fair to include one of New Jerseys prospects, who will likely be a middle six forward, nonetheless he is still a prospect. Lastly second round picks almost hardly amount to impact players so having two of the come Montreal's way is nothing more than a lottery ticket. I think that Henrique can put up a 50 point year while Quenneville could have a 25 point year. Overall this should not take away from Montreals offence but still allow a culture change and give them a top six center. In New Jersey they add another winger to stacked group of Hall, Palmari and Johannson. They also have a ton of center depth with Hischier, Zacha, Mcleod, all of which who could become real good players very soon.
As for the Vegas deal, it totally depends on the market. We`ve seen times when players values have been drastically reduced because the market doesn't help a trade scenario. I think that Neal wont resign and Vegas would take any deal that would give them a young prospect and decent pick plus they don't have any goalie prospects so Fucale makes sense and would have an opportunity for more starts in the AHL or NHL backup role.

Carolina (Thoughts)
Probably could have done some better research on Derek Ryan, as I am now aware of his superior point totals. However it will be interesting to see if his production keeps up. With that being said I don't see Hagelin getting worse at this point, with still potential to produce better numbers. Zykov is a decent prospect that I think might be overvalued, but I can understand why Zykov+ Ryan+ a 6th would be and overpayment. Would the deal work for both sides if it where 1 for 1
