No, I think Toronto is holding on to Brown until the Marner situation resolves itself, on the long-shot chance that they suddenly find themselves in need of another Top 9 RW.

hockeymom1976 - ever checked out the market for RD, from teams with a winning record? yes Zaitsev is overpaid, but is not for disposal like garbage
....same thing with Connor Brown, valuable role player who can move up the lineup is probably worth a 3rd round pick</div></div>
Top 4 D have been getting sold off for nickels all week as teams fight to clear cap space. Connor Brown (or whatever you can get in exchange for Brown; Vancouver might not be interested but the return sounds like a 3rd) is probably the cost of moving Zaitsev, even to a team like the Canucks that would be interested in his services.

Not particularly interested in re-signing 31yo Jake Muzzin next summer anyway.

Bringing Gardiner Back EDM VAN
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Teams don't carry a roster of 21...even though they can. Heed at 734,000? If you think Heed is a competent top 6, do you really think a UFA RHD signs for 734,000? Really?</div></div>
Using Evolving Hockey's contract predictions. They have Heed most likely to sign a 2-year deal, but that's their projected number on a one-year.
And I realize teams don't usually carry 21, but it should be obvious by now that the Leafs are not going to be a usual case next season.

RD Retool under an 82M Cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Almost all contracts are covered....maybe a just 1m to be paid by the team. Horton's totally uninsured deal allowed the Leaf to get out from Clarkson's contract (Clarkson wasn't injured at the time.)</div></div>
I don't believe that's true. My understanding is that the NHL's league-wide policy covers three contracts per team, and that teams have to secure any additional insurance beyond that.

RD Retool under an 82M Cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>What? Doesn't insurance cover all or certainly most of Kesler's LTIR.</div></div>
Not sure, does it? There isn't a lot of publicly available information about the NHL's contract insurance plan. I personally don't know if Kesler's deal was covered.

RD Retool under an 82M Cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>I am, but so what. The league decides if a player is fit. But Robidas Isle is a factor why do the Ducks make the deal?. They still have to absorb Marleau's 6.25m hit this year. Why does Kesler agree to waive his NMC.? He's living in California he doesn't want the hassle of reporting to the Leafs.
Really folks just keep on repeating this nonsensical Kesler to Leafs trade thinking it has validity.</div></div>
If the Leafs are retaining money on Marleau, the Ducks don't have to absorb his full cap hit this year. You're right that the operative question is whether Kesler would waive; I don't see any reason the Ducks (an internal cap team) wouldn't rather pay Marleau $3M to play for them than pay Kesler $6M to not play for them.

You must not be familiar with Robidas Island?

RD Retool under an 82M Cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JayTea</b></div><div>Hossa only costs Arizona about $1m in actual dollars, so they're not worried about moving him. If they need the cap space, they can LTIR him same as the Leafs. Arizona is only interested in Marleau because they're a West coast team he might waive for and they know they can get a premium asset to take him. No one is taking Marleau without a premium asset included.</div></div>
True. Makes more more sense to trade Marleau (50%) for Kesler.
