Scoring Punch
The price is too high for Hertl.
Kotkaniemi was a top-3 pick. Their 2021 pick will likely be a lottery pick. The 2020 2nd round pick will likely be top-50. I don't think the price is worth the scoring they will get. They should keep picks to rebuild properly.

Wild thought
Anything is possible, but I get the feeling this overvalues the Leafs players a little bit.
I can't see the Flames moving Hamonic for an expiring contract and a top-9 forward. Johnsson may be a little better than Bennett at the moment, and Hamonic is much better than Ceci. I believe the Leafs would need to give up much more here... perhaps prospects/picks.
What do you think about: Hamonic, Bennett for Bracco, Dermott, Ceci + pick.

Making playoffs
That's hilarious.
I also think that while these trades are reasonable, they would not be a significant help to the Canadiens. If I was a Habs fan, I would feel that a 2nd rounder is steep for Mike Green when someone like Sami Vatanen is available.

two moves to rule them all
Both are creative and reasonable trades:
-Bernier meets a need for both teams as DET gets another pick
-CLB gets a few good forwards in Bracco & Johnsson.

What would the return be
He would add the grit that some of the traditional fans are crying for. That being said, that seems like a hefty price to pay for one year of Domi.

Good point. Ottawa is cheap, which would make this unlikely. That being said, I don't think Marleau would say no to a deal that would be for a purpose of a buyout so that he can sign with a team of his choice.

Leafs - Subban
I think that you hit the nail on the head that Nashville will need to retain close to $3M at least in a PK deal. That being said, I imagine that the Leafs would expect much more for MM. What do you think of Subban ($4.5M retained), Fabbro & pick for MM? MM is an elite talent and his best season is yet to come. Subban is a declining defenceman. Just a thought.

DMCs Leafs
I like the Edmonton trade. It is similar to many trades that I've seen on here.
It's been reported that St. Louis offered Pietrangelo for Nylander earlier in the season. The Leafs didn't like that offer. That's why I would think that the Leafs value Nylander (who's best season is ahead of him) for a declining Subban (who has a greater cap hit). What do you think of Subban (with $3M) retained for Zaitsev + pick ? I may be off, but it would give Nashville $1.5M in cap space and an additional pick. It would give the Leafs a RHD that is a replacement for Zaitsev for a $6M cap hit... Just a thought.
Thanks for your thoughtful mock-offseason.

I found your trades to be creative and quite reasonable. Ottawa has proven to be a worthwhile trading partner before, and getting a third seems fair while they fill a roster spot.
While I am confused at how Marner may make >$9.5M, it sounds like thats a real possibility...
Good job!

Leafs
It looks like you have the right ideas here, but the values of players and picks are different than how I perceive them. Giving up a 1st and 3rd to rid Marleau's contract is a hefty price for one year of a contract. Since the Leafs rejected a Nylander for Pietrangelo, I can't see them doing a similar one-for-one for Barrie, Columbus' trade is interesting... it's a bit of a lateral move between Boone and Kadri, but something worth thinking about. Thanks for taking the time to put this together... it's always hard and always a lot of criticisms from people!

Cap is going to be an issue for the Leafs, but this is not the solution. This is not a good trade. Murphy is not a top pairing defenceman and Nylander is worth way more.

The trade seems reasonable for both teams, however my biggest issue is that the Leafs would need to protect Fowler, Gardiner, Rielly and Carrick as four defenceman in the expansion draft. This trade, if done after the expansion draft, is reasonable. If done before, it makes the team likely to loose a valuable forward.

A Hartnell deal that makes sense
The idea of that trade (top-9 forward and a prospect) does make sense to me; however, the St. Louis Blues do not seem like the right partner. They are looking to contend for the cup again, and this makes their team worse. Especially given that they lost some forward depth this off-season. I can see a more appropriate partner in the Jets or Devils.

Just for fun
Good signings with Ladd and McGinn. I have reason to believe Ladd will be getting in the 5 million +. Yakupov was a good person for the Habs, but I havent heard of either of those players. Chiarelli will definitely ask for at least a roster player.

JVR & Bozak
It would be nice for JVR and Bozak to be on this team, but that isn't enough. If Lucic was traded for Martin Jones, 1st round pick and Colin Miller; JVR's value is a strong roster player, first round pick, and prospect. I would suggest Kuznetsov and 1st round pick.

Thinking outside the box
It looks like you put a lot of time into this. I'm sorry, but a number of your trades are realistic.
1. Pronger will not be traded as he will be done by the expansion draft, Datsyuk will not.
2. Sam Reinhart has top line potential as a centre. Those don't just grow on trees. While Nyquist is a dependable player, he does not meet the needs or Bufalo, nor does Howard. Upgrading second round picks and otherwise is not enough either.
3. I did like the idea of Duchene in the Red Wings jersey. While the trade was hefty, I believe they would want more picks in that deal.
