How soon Leafs fans forget a decade of utter futility and ... what is it now ... three first-round exits?!!! You have two first-overalls on your team, a fourth, a fifth, a seventh and an eighth overall. Must be nice. Too bad you were one-and-done again this year and have a cap nightmare to untangle. Enjoy your long summer.</div></div>
you're entitled to your opinion. But before you bring up first round losses, Montreal has missed the playoffs 3 out of the last four seasons. the problem with them is they have the best goalie in the world and not a very strong team in front of him which is causing them to not get top picks/prospects. If they had half a brain they would deal Price and scoop up top picks for the next couple of season. Tie that into what they have now and look out.Toronto has had 3 years of success making the playoffs regardless how far they got. they're still young and have a bright future. Washington took a while to win their first cup so patience is a virtue.

Nylander worth the money? Prove it! I see a guy who conned his team into a 6-year/$40M contract and decided to coast. On a team loaded with offensive talent, Nylander's numbers were disgraceful. He's Toronto's problem now.</div></div>
how quickly we forget that WN had back to back 60 pt seasons. You know that plateau that only one Hab got this year! he's also the son of a former Leaf ;) You know WM has the talent. i wouldn't judge him for this past season. If he records the same PPG next years then bash him all you want.
Dubas needs a lot of things. 1/3 of this past seasons roster will be gone.
I would rather read an article about a GM who knew what they're doing which Bergevin doesn't. He's messed up the Habs for a while now and it's time for him to go.

Everyone knows Dubas has to trade Kadri for being such a dumbass. You might get Faksa straight up.
Nylander signed a huge contract and then produced at less than 0.5 points per game. Kempe is already a decent player. Clague looks to be fairly good prospect and the LAK's second-rounder is likely to be in the 30s next year. So three pretty good pieces for a guy with a lot to prove.
BrindAmour isn't much of a prospect and a 5th is no biggie, but why would the Oilers want to take Conner Brown's cap hit?</div></div>
Zaitsev is no Hamilton however he isn't a slouch either and would be a decent replacement for Ham and adding Kap would off set the deal.
Nylander is much better than 0.5 ppg. maybe the 2nd is a stretch but the two for him would be a fair deal IMO.
edm needs to take whatever they can get at this point lol

The third off sets it but keep in mind Uncle Lou was the one who signed NZ to that deal and likes him a lot. Mayfield adds much needed size to the Leafs blue line.

true but a young d man for a young forward can happen. It's not like I dealt an aging forward for him. As for Neal, who knows. Just placed Kap in that spot so the Leafs can get the d man they need..

My thought process was CGY has one of the best top 4 d in the league so RA could be moved. They also need a replacement for Neal and Kap would fit in nicely.

Understandable but I took into consideration the depth they have up the middle with players coming up. Their depth on the wings isn't that deep, also AJ will sign for less than what Jenner is making.

You're right but you have to consider term left in their respective contracts. Also keep in mind I posted this with the thought that the Leafs taking on so much cap it would off set the deal. Jamiepo taught me that i was off because I didn't understand fully the ramifications of the cap world.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>Oh more than just zaitsev.... leafs have about 3-4m (in deadline space) that they can use without affecting performance bonuses. So you would need to get this trade into that realm. The move would also not include any players that will not be on payroll next season ie hainsey and gardiner. But that’s to make it work for next year. You have added 6.5m to next years cap hit so between The TDL and first day of season, we can be 10% over during off season (which is really only 3m because Horton stays on the roster during off season), you will have to get the cap in compliance.
To make it simple money out equals money in at TDL. Put Horton on IR and not ltir and then get this team to 83m</div></div>
Interesting. Thanks for the 411 on TDL cap and cap in general. much appreciated as I can use that going forward.
out of curiosity what is the difference between IR and LTIR??? isn;t LTIR the tool to use to lose the cap hit?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>You are correct, it is the daily cap hit multiplied by remaining days.
The only way it can be fixed is by moving the same amount of salary out. (Remember the same equation for when you move a player)
You are 9.1m over the cap as Nathan Horton needs to stay on the roster to pay pb. Which means you will need to move the respective 3.8m in overages you have in contracts and roughly 20m more for the full Horton contract that you included....so it’s not going to work.</div></div>
Then it is similar to basketball. Wasn't sure how the cap worked. I assumed wrong. I guess I have to add big Z in the deal :D

oh for sure. I am just stating the fact that it happens and that is the more likely reason for it and that is to save on the cap. If push comes to shove just add Zaitsev to the deal lol

TBH i am not sure and at the end of the day i may still be above the cap but that can be fixed. If Cap friendly had that option that would be a great tool to have while doing this. Recently the leafs have called up and down Kaskisuo for that reason so his salary doesn't go against the cap when they're not using him. Happens with other teams as well especially when it comes to injuries.

Cap isn't an issue. Yes there is a cap hit but it's how much a team spends at the end of the day. As long as you don;t spend above the cap you're good. At the deadline they wouldn't be spending $6.5 on AP for the rest of the season. It will be much lower.

I should add that some pieces (picks or b prospects) can be added but considering the Leafs are not giving any salary back or getting Stl to retain off sets a lot in this deal. Yes this puts the Leafs over the cap but keep in mind most of the salary would of been paid up to this point which Cap friendly does not include when doing armchair GM.
