I think he could be good if managed correctly.</div></div>
He's a great PP QB who is a total disaster 5v5. Best usage would be incredibly sheltered 3rd pair usage and basically playing the full 2 minutes on the PP. problem is at 5.4mil you need him to be a guy who can reliably play 20 minutes or so and not get shelled. He's not that.

Mitch Marner Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>grok</b></div><div>i don't think CBJ is going to trade two lottery picks for marner, even though he comes with a ton of value. they didn't have a first in 2017 or 2019, and their core just split.
the right trade partner for a marner deal would be an otherwise fringe playoff team with strong goal scoring talent that marner could elevate to a contender...like toronto</div></div>
I don't disagree with you on the fringe playoff team point being a good trading partner. What I will say is that CBJ lost high level talent in the off-season. A trade for Marner would at address some of that....there's something to be said about that.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nick623</b></div><div>You say Marner's 26 goals were inflated by Tavares, want a guy that scored 27 goals AND 2 1st rd picks for the right to pay him ~ 11 mil????</div></div>
I don't know man....on the one hand non Leafs fans say Marner should be paid blahblahblah....and then when someone presents a somewhat sensible trade there's comments like yours.
Which is it? Is Marner talented and deserving of 11-12 million dollars on whatever term he's looking for? Or not?
I'm just saying....playing both sides of the argument really shows that non Leafs fans are mostly just trolling and not bringing much logic to the conversation.

Buyout window is closed, and no way Marner gets that on a one year deal.

Puh leeeze Chevy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nick623</b></div><div>Unless the Jets retain half of Laine's cap Carolina can't afford him...</div></div>
If Carolina doesn't have a plan in place for when/if a Laine trade happened to make the cap work, they wouldnt be in the conversation for the trade. Theres always a way to make it work.
All Carolina has to do is move Nino for picks/prospects and they are good. That is if its Pesce and Svech for Laine and JP.

1st of all, jets aint giving Connor 4 years, its 3 or 7. The $$ is right for 7 years. if its 3, he's getting 5.5-6
2nd, Unless Faulk comes with a reasonable extension jets say no. Considering there's been rumours thrown around about Laine for Svech and Pesce, Car fans are probably taking this in a heartbeat. IMO you should swap faulk and bean for pesce then take out 1st and replace with 2nd.

Laine
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Birtle34</b></div><div>Never heard that, other than on here, I guess there going to paint themselves into a corner with him, and trade maybe a brewing. Jets maybe thinking that there top salary going to be wheeler at 8.25 and looking at dressing room dynamics and leadership structures, with wheeler at 8.25 scheifele 6.15 and morrissey new deal as the big money going forward, along with buffy and ehlers. Other than the mtl capdump trade, more often than not, in the Chevy era, right after the trade, the jets look like clearcut winners. Going to be interesting with laine though</div></div>
Heard today he was offered a two year bridge deal for $5M which is ridiculous, still think this ends up being a 2 year bridge deal for around $7M give or take a few hundred K.

I see you're new to CapFriendly. Apparently the Leafs have to overpay for every signee and trade. The other 30 teams, they get to sign players for whatever fits into their cap conveniently.

They do not. You're right, it can only be used if a team is at or over the cap. As it stands right now the Ducks can't put Kesler or Eaves on LTIR, they'll go on regular IR until/if they sign someone who puts them over the cap.

So Buffalo gets a legit top 6 winger who will only get better, and a young versatile player who can play all positions, plus a mid range pick, and Detroit gets a steaming pile of sh*t?
