I'm not sure how you can say Marner is worth less than McTavish. 27 year old superstar RW, 9th among active players in points per game, elite defensively, with an 8 year contract extension (9 full years of team control) for a guy who projects to be very good but has a 19 goal career high with 42 points.
I think any GM in the NHL would accept in Pat's shoes here, despite what Anaheim fans think

Not Realistic
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DNP1932</b></div><div>I mean i think the expectation for his return is a little insane from leafs fans too NGL. Like sure hes young and a great player, but he has all the leverage. I sincerely have no clue what theyd be looking for from a return, i would assume something similar to the guentzel trade, and that would be a good return imo. Considering guentzel is proven both in the regular season and playoffs, i think marners playoff performances are blown out of proportion, but there’s no doubt guentzel raises his game in the playoffs which is huge for that trade. Also, if marner is traded it seems that the consensus is that it will happen in the off season meaning an even lower return. So, lack of leverage, time of trade, playoff performances, and cap hit/future cap hit all work against a big return. What’s going for the leafs if traded is he is a bonafide star with all the tools to be great with another team in both the regular season and the playoffs.</div></div>
Don't necessarily disagree with a lot of your points but Marner and Guentz aren't the same player. Tkachuk returned Huberdeau and Weegar, a lot closer to a Marner package if he signs an extension which I assume he will

I truly don’t get it. If he’s essentially worth a first+ (that’s what you’ve proposed) - why do the Leafs who need a cup not want him?
He’s 25, so he’s not exactly young but young enough to fit their timeline.</div></div>
I don't think he does well in a 3rd pairing role and I'm not sure they go into the season with him as a top 4 guy

Smart teams acquire young players who have upside with more minutes like Liljegren all the time. Forgot the Sharks wouldn't qualify for that though

Don't love the trade for either team, Romanov seems a bit redundant with Benoit, you'd probably like to have McCabe in that 2LD spot as well. Marner for Pulock + I'm sure could be discussed but wouldn't surprise me if Isles fans come in here saying no chance
