Boredom
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SB84</b></div><div><i>Pens have a stud #1 goalie, don't see why Allen is included as he would be an overpriced backup. Giving up Malkin is strange given he has won a Conn Smythe and has the potential to win a playoff series for you. Did I mention the Pens are cup contenders and could use someone like that. Nobody coming back from STL has that ability. You go from Malkin as your #2 C to Stasny... yikes. Berglund isn't an upgrade on Bonino and Yak is an enigma. Pens get fleeced.</i></div></div>
This is a joke trade. Don't take it so seriously

Shattenkirk?
It's an interesting idea to play with, but the Pens wouldn't relegate Daley to a scratch. A depth defenseman would be more realistic. If this were going to work, they would have to send a starting defenseman the other way.

small but effective
I wouldn't call trading Ryan Spooner small. In today's market, it would be one of the bigger trades since the trade deadline is dead.

Tonight's Game
I wouldn't say Kunitz hasn't done much. He is just being asked to play in a different role than he has before. I've watched a lot of the games, and Kunitz has been doing the dirty work, allowing players like Malkin and Kessel to have more space. It's not all about points and goals.

No Fleury Trade
Vegas would want more, (Sheary is not exactly a forward to build around, and Pouliot is looking like he will flop), and Bengtsson, Erixon, and Bleugar are not close to NHL players

Realistic???
Blackhawks deal is unfair for the Leafs. Soshnikov and Marincin both have more letters in their name than Panarin does.

Get a goalie and this team is dangerous
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Watty1</b></div><div><i><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gaudetster</b></div><div><i>pens would rather elliot than Zaktoff, I like shinkaruk but Jim Rutherford would ask for a little more i assume, maybe a 3rd?</i></div></div> Fair enough, but Zatkoff played well for Pittsburgh last year in the playoffs. I don't know if Pittsburgh plays the defensive game that fits Elliott so well, he and Zatkoff might actually be a saw off - and figure Pitt's cap situation.
Rutheford might get a 3rd, but teams know Pittsburgh has to move Fleury so that will hurt the return. But sure, a third could go as well.</i></div></div>
Zatkoff was well-liked in the Pens locker room, and would be more willing to take a backup role than Elliott would, although his form suggests he should. The extra cap space could bring in a depth defenseman and apparently Landeskog now. I know the Landeskog-to-Pittsburgh rumors will probably never come true, but just imagine them with him.

The expansion draft happens after this season, so Lehtonen would still be on the roster

Avs trades, dont lay
The Landeskog deal does not give up nearly enough. Kunitz will most likely retire in a few seasons, and Pouliot is nowhere near an NHL lineup, as he is the Pens 9th defenseman.

Cullen is 95% sure to retire after this season, and I don't see the need for the trade with Florida since neither team is really getting anything that different, but it looks like a reasonable prediction.

Does this get it done?
The Pens would most likely get a defenseman at the deadline with injuries to Letang and Daley being problematic, and with Derrick Pouliot not living up to his potential, trading away another young defenseman would only weaken the Pens.

Trade ideas for fluery
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i>IMO the Pens would prefer to keep Fleury and Murray for an season ending and playoff run. Now if the Pens can get a great deal for a team that needs a goalie for lets say a Dman, maybe the Pens pull the trigger.
I really don't think the "expansion and NMC" rules makes a whole lot difference in trade thinking now and till TDL.</i></div></div>
The expansion draft makes a huge difference in trade talks. If the Pens don't trade either goalie, then they are forced to protect Fleury because of his NMC, leaving Murray open for the expansion draft. Other teams can see what a predicament we are in and will lowball us. Besides, not many playoff teams will need a goalie with the exception of Dallas, but Niemi and Lehtonen make over 10 million combined, so its difficult to move them.

Despite his slow start, Maatta has quietly improved since the beginning of the season. Even though he hasn't been putting up points, his defensive game has been great.

I haven't done much research, but here are a few names that could possibly work
Adam Mcquaid (BOS)
Carl Gunnarsson (STL)
Dennis Seidenberg (NYI)
Kyle Quincey (NJ)
Cody Franson (BUF)
I wouldn't put any defensemen on your trade block if you are looking to strengthen the defensive depth
