Strange lines and pairings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rbcf</b></div><div>Yeah I don't know of him too much either. But looking at his stats, he should be given a chance on that top line. Putting Neal or Lindholm there would make that top line super lethal but at the expense of the actual team.... I would rather spread out the talent so that every line has a good chance to score.</div></div>
then like peters has said if we need a goal or have to score to put a game away neal bumps up when he shortens the bench.

Holts to CGY
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canadianape</b></div><div>I think the biggest reason that the caps should do it now is I don't see that same value going to Washington next year for holtby. I believe if this deal were to happen it would be because Calgary would be guaranteed 2 years of a reliable starter at 6.1 MIL with the hope that he resigns afterwards. if this were to happen next summer Smiths value is almost non existent because he's a UFA and holtbys value diminishes slightly because it is potentially only a one year rental with the likelihood of Holtby asking for 8-9 Mil as a UFA in 2 years. I think this would be a tough trade to sell for both teams. Calgary would have to assume they are all in to win a cup and Washinton has to be confident that Smith and their young goaltenders are good enough to provide reliable goaltending</div></div>

Holts to CGY
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ClockReads2113</b></div><div>I think the Capitals would (should) be trading to CGY next summer, but trading him now doesn't make sense as there will be no starter. Samsonov or Vanecek probably won't be ready. And Mike Smith is probably a backup at this point in his career. Maybe he's a starter but can you see him being a Stanley Cup Final starter? I don't think so.</div></div>
CGY needs it this year. do i see smith as a starter absolutely! he was having an unreal season but the problem with him is and will always be health if we had a back up to play 50/50 with him then this trade wouldn't need to be done but we don't. wash supposedly does. agree with your comment why should the caps do it now.

Edit: I went and played around with this trade on the Flames end, it would leave them a little over 1 mill over the cap fro a year. COL has the room to retain and I think you could take out Lazar and add a decent prospect to counter that retention. It's an interesting proposal but would have a ton of moving pieces which is rare too see. Varlamov and Smith do seem like it would be a solid tandem.</div></div>

Predicting all 31 teams starting lineups with needs at deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SmugTkachuk</b></div><div>1. The Bennett experiment at center has not gone well, I think he is a good middle 6 winger, I think we need to play Frolik with Jankowski to see if we can create another Backlund type player as a 3rd line C. Parsons needs to play in the AHL for a year at least, he stumbled a little last year, hopefully that is just attributed to adjusting to the pro game.
2. Top pairing will be Giordano - Brodie, Hamonic and Hanifin will play together, I think that most of the year you will see Stone and Kulak rotate 6 and 7 while Andersson plays consistent minutes for the season.
3. A Hanifin bridge deal for 2 years or a long term contract is ideal, a 2 year bridge will keep him under team control when the contract expires, if you go to 3 years then he becomes a UFA at the end of that and we could lose him for nothing. The other trouble with a bridge is optimistically he takes off and is a top pairing D man in the league, when that contract expires in 2 years he would have to get a significant pay raise. If we could lock him down now for 8 years 5 - 5.5 million per then it's a steal in a couple years. Could backfire though in obvious ways.
4. We need to get Smitty off his feet more, we need a guy who will start 20-30 games this year and give the old fella a break. a 1B would be ideal but that obviously comes at a premium, I am hopeful that Rittich will step up this year and establish himself, if not i think you see a pretty early season move to help Smith out.
5. Reality, we need Gio to be good for 2 more years. At that point Hanifin should be ready to fill that spot, Valimaki should be ready to fill in for Hanifin on the 2nd pair, and Gio can ride off into the sunset on our bottom pairing, mentoring the new guys until he is in a nursing home.
Hope this helped, obviously these are my opinions and plenty of Flames fans will have differing!</div></div>

if Czarnik can play this team is deep
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Vanderm</b></div><div>I think Peters wants to really strengthen that top line and give them a chance to score 90-100 goals. If Czarnik has that level of skill and chemistry and can score 25 goals......whoa. Neal, Tkachuk, and Lindholm all seem ready to do that job though.
Love the idea, and I’ve got my fingers crossed too. But not sure Peters gives this a proper look until an injury forces his hand to get creative.
The exciting thing is that CGY’s 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lines look fantastic if Czarnik takes the top line RW spot.
I don’t see Brouwer getting bought out though. And he probably earns his 4RW role with two solid linemates in Ryan playing middle.</div></div>
100% agree i actually bought brouwer out thinking i was going to be tight on cap space but could easily leave him there in and out of the line up who ever is hotter at the time.

if Czarnik can play this team is deep
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SammyT_51</b></div><div>Hanifin would get between 5-6 on 7-8yr deal. Other than that RFA signings are on point. Czarnik can play, but he is 4th liner with PK skills which is exact time where he would be used. Also instead of Foo I would expect roster spot for Dube on wing and Valimaki on 3LD with Rasmus Andersson. Also Peters would try Tkachuk with Gaudreau and Monahan. If Im treveling I would try to trade Frolik to Florida for Petrovic and McGinn as 4th liner and DD partner for Valimaki. I would change up your lines tho.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Tkachuk
Neal-Backlund-Dubé
Bennett-Ryan-Lindholm
Czarnik-Jankowski-Frolik
Quine-Lazar
Giordano-Brodie
Hanifin-Hamonic
Valimaki-Andersson
Kulak
Smith-Rittich</div></div>
i dont think he gets that personally all reports are cgy would like a longer term deal but hanifin camp wants bridge then to sign a big one in 2-3 years. could be wrong. Dube needs a year in the ahl to develope more we are crowded now he can play top min there thinking he is going to jump into the top 6 when we made trades to help just that is crazy and too much to ask out of the gate. this was just a pipe dream top 6 to start will no doubt be johnny monny lindholm tkachuk backs neal. valamaki by all means can make the team one of the few arm chair gms i left him off the nhl roster. i dont mind your lines at all. thanks for the input

Flames throwing 4 good lines out a la VGK
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Vanderm</b></div><div>30-31 is a well-defined statistical precipice for many NHL forwards. The Flames brought in Brouwer after one of his peak seasons. He’d be fine at $2M as a depth guy, but even then when you look beyond the counting stats he’s the worst forward on the Flames roster the past couple years.
Czarnik has major potential. Can shoot too. CGY should actually give him in a look in the middle 6 this year to see what he can do.</div></div>
middle six. i have this vision of him on the top line with johnny and monny and if he can even keep up to what ferland was doing look how effin deep that makes the team. i hope he get more than a shot at middle six because hes top line potential
