Graves led the NHL in plus/minus twice. He isn’t what we expected him to be but he has pedigree.
Smith is a proven playoff performer, reached 2 finals.
Rakell is a feisty winger with good puck carrying ability.
Jarry is meh, but TOR will be desperate for a goalie.

I mean he won’t be a generational 1OA pick.
He will still project to be a decent top line LW, like Guentzel, and that would be good enough for us.

Probably from Toronto’s standpoint, it would be a change of culture.
Instead of paying 5 guys 55 million, they’re going to break down the money a bit more, have a bit more of a balanced lineup.
And of course acquiring both Smith & Rakell would send the fans a message that they want guys who perform in the playoffs.

That doesn't seem like a good long-term plan for making an older team better.</div></div>
Win now, worry about the future later cuz Sid/Geno have 1 year at most.
If they get a fourth cup, that’s all that matters cuz it will prove they have a better legacy than Kane/Toews.
But at the same time I don’t think this team is it. Need a 3C and a 2LD.

Toronto is going through a retool, they wouldn’t want to give up a first especially just to dump a player with only 1 year left.

You’re probably overconfident cuz you swept a non-playoff team in the first round that any team could beat. Getting swept by Carolin in round 2.

IDK, I feel like Marner rarely gets rush chances the past couple of years, mostly it is offence off the cycle. Which he does well in the regular season but not so much in the playoffs cuz of increased physicality.

That depends if they can move him or not. The team has not given up on him as far as putting him out on the ice.</div></div>
Honestly I didn’t like what I saw from him on the third line, his lack of defensive presence killed the bottom 6.
I feel like he’s the perfect type of winger for Sid, he has to earn it obviously.
But at the start of the season, I’d probably have rolled Guentzel-Crosby-Smith and Rakell-Malkin-Rust.

As far as Smith I don't know, if you believe that you believe that. Could have been nagging injury for all I know..Bbut here is the thing. He's in a contract year next year. He's got ever reason to go hard all year.</div></div>
If Smith goes hard this year and plays well, that's great. He has a lot of Sheary in his game, but he will need to earn that spot on Sid's wing after being in the doghouse all year.

Smith's issue is not his ability, it is his work ethic. The guy quit after November.
DOC is a great player to have in the bottom 6 but is pushing it in a top 6 role. He has good forechecking ability, but his ability on the puck is nowhere near top 6 level yet.
DOC-Eller-Puljujarvi would be awfully similar to Kuhnhackl-Cullen-Fehr in 2016.
