Description
One trade that does solve any cap issues and at the same time we are adding to our draft picks rather than trading them all away.

This will make sure there are prospects that we continue to develop into hopefully quality NHL players to keep the flow of young supporting cast of players.

Yell at me if you must but first read the Name I gave the team. I know trading Matthews is not very likely and would be not popular for leaf fans which I have been one for well over 40 years.

CAR
  1. Matthews, Auston
Additional Details:
Trade happens after July 1 2019 15.2 million signing bonus is paid to Matthews. That leaves 42.95 million left = 8.59 million per year average actual salary for Carolina to pay. (Offer sheet compensation at the 11.63 million cap hit would be 4 firsts) I am asking 3 firsts and a proven NHL 3rd round pick.

Leafs would never do that deal... for Matthews it’d be an elite #1 defender plus picks.

Ok Then - Here is your task. Tell me what the trade is --> Here are the conditions - you must use my team above without Pesce and say Kapanen signs 2 year deal for a million less so that gives you just over 6 million for that elite#1 defender cap hit next year and the team you are trading with has the cap space to fit Matthews in.

Or you just get rid of Brown and Zaitsev, trade Johnsson, Bracco, +prospects and picks for a different decent defenseman. Instead of trading away arguably the best player the Leafs have. Pesce right now is also not an elite defenseman. He’s top 4. I’m glad you’re not sitting in Kyle Dubas’ seat as GM.

I am not saying I would ever do this - which I would not. I am just exploring the idea to see what it could possibly be. I also do not like selling all our future prospects and picks just to force teams to take trades to make cap room
