In order to fit everyone under the cap, I avoided using anyone with a cap hit at or above $10,000,000. There are enough great players signed to deals in the $6-7M range that it wasn't worth it to sign Kane/McDavid/etc. I also emphasized chemistry when it came to player selection and lineups. For example, if I thought Panarin or Hall was better than Marchand, I would still keep Marchand because of his chemistry with Bergeron/Crosby.
Lineup Explanation:
F1) Point-Kucherov is argualby the best duo in the NHL, and throwing fellow Hart candidate Gaudreau with them makes an amazing line.
F2) The Bruins top line is the best two-way line in the NHL, and they were deadly with Crosby at the World Cup.
F3) MacKinnon-Rantanen have been destroying the league this year, and Aho is a cheap and talented forward to compliment them.
F4) Although all three of these guys are young superstars, they haven't put up as many points as the other three lines.
D1) Rielly is a Norris candidate for the first time, and putting him with a former Norris winner creates a crazy top pair that has experience.
D2) Josi and Jones are both fantastic two-way defensemen on great deals. They also have some Nashville chemistry.
D3) Giordano is a veteran Norris candidate, so pairing him with the young, cheap McAvoy will add stability to the pair.
G) Vasilevsky and Gibson are two of the best goaltenders in the league whose salaries combine for less than most starting goalies.
PP1) Toronto and Tampa chemistry
PP2) Calgary and Boston chemistry
PP3) [Aho-MacKinnon-Rantanen, Petersson-Karlsson] Remaining forwards and Karlsson
PK1) Most PK minutes among players and Boston chemistry
PK2) A good amount of PK experience (Point played over 2:00 per game last year, even though he doesn't this year)
Im sorry, Point is an amazing player but not better than the other 3 centres IMO. Maybe not even better than Pettersson if he was a C (just my opinion, he's an elite player still and cant go wrong with any of these guys)
I can maybe see your point, since his success could possibly be attributed to Kucherov. However, Point has the 2nd most points per game among centers this year and was great defensively in the playoffs last year against Boston, even without Kuch on his line. So given that, Point is easily a top 5 center in the league when paired with Kucherov. If he didn't have those two players on his wings, he would probably be moved down the lineup, but he has great chemistry with Kucherov so that line should definitely be 1st or at least 2nd behind Crosby and the Bruins.
