Description
Goal of this was primarily to create space to sign Marner, Johnsson and Kapanen.
Trading Zaitsev for Gudas isn't really a downgrade either, Gudas was a better player than Zaitsev statistically and getting Pionk on a bridge deal would work for keeping the window open long-term. Pionk's a good 2nd pairing option for an offensive defenseman. With the bridge deal, his contract can be explored the year after with all the money coming off the books during the 19-20 offseason.
Warning: This roster might not help you in a 7-game series with the Bruins...

Flyers decline and laugh. Oilers will probably offer a 3rd round pick.

Slight chuckle at most. I'd say Zaitsev would benefit from a change in scenery and Gudas would be a good fit for Toronto. Flyers could put him and Provorov together and it would work out. And the Oilers, well.. they're historically bad at this whole trading thing.

I don’t think this is a fair trade by any means. I do however think that flyers are a team that may show intrest in zaitsev. They have a lot of offensive Dmen and are quite short on RHD. Zaitsev could certainly help to anchor a pairing defensively and his cost is nil.
